I started in a system with radioactive and crystals am i lucky?

It seems crystals dont get important till you reach cloaking and antimatter drives/weapons. So sort of. It wont help much for the first week probably. Radioactive is pretty good, though.

Also, just checked, you can win as an alliance.

Alright, I hate you all; I haven't played this in a while, but what the hell...

So: Galaxy 106 then?

- Complete control over population/production for each planets.

If you ever played Master of Orion 2, you will feel right at home. Citizen can be easily switched between different roles: farmers, workers, miners, scientists or bankers. Create specialised planets focused on research, ships production or wealth creation. You can micromanage each planet to maximize efficiency. You hate micromanagement? Then:

- Custom ship design.

Oh snap! Question: How time consuming it is? Would one hour daily be enough to setup everything for the rest of day? Otherwise I might have to skip it  :-\. I have more games I would like to play than I have time already.

If you effectively use the production queue, governors, and admirals, sure.

We newbies keep getting this.  Except for we don't know what these governors and admirals should be doing effectively.

I know for sure, at first look, I can make an admiral 'effectively' send soldiers to the 'weakest' planet.  But is that effective?
I also know I can make the governor 'effectively' change citizens around, but to what means?

it seems pretty effective, short of existing for every possible tick [which is unfeasible unless you don't sleep for more then a hour]... you pretty much have to use them in order to be as effective as possible.. I only started playing a bit today on the newbie sandbox server.. and i think i'm picking up pretty quick how effective and useful my gov' is, i can see why someone might pay money just for the feature of being able to save/load your gov' code over multiple galaxies, as even to a newbie like me, it seems like its getting longer and more complex as i try and make a blueprint for how to raise my little planets...and have them auto do things like keep the right balance of workers/farmers for producing things without starving, and to let them build certain buildings in  a certain order and when to change the military recruitment rate ect... i have to do less and less to keep my empire running... now i can just click "build me a ship" and then it will auto figure out how to produce it effectively without starving, and arrange for some food to go the military so that some military guys will be ready for the ship... and then have it set everything back afterwards so that even if i wasnt around, it didnt waste time with guys on labour when i rather have them feeding my people ect... and not waste food going to the military when its unnecessary... ect.. I can barely imagine how complex the governors rules/decisions would get for someone who was actually experienced.

Sounds fun. I'll check it out tomorrow. Hopefully Galaxy 106 will still have free space.

The Wiki has a good section about governors.

Basically, you set a number of conditions for an action. For example, you can set it to check if your food production is too low, and if so have it convert some of your Workers into Farmers. You can also then have it check if your food surplus is high enough and have it convert some Farmers into Workers. This has the effect of preventing starvation(by slowing construction when you need more Farmers), but it will also prevent you from growing new citizens(once food surplus is full, you get a new person), of course that's not a problem if your colony is already at max size.

I've currently set my first 2 governors up for galaxy 106 (Haven't really got time to play around in the newbie ground yet). As of yet they'll just build extra farms when the population reaches certain levels and handle assignment of sufficient farmers and workers during production. Hopefully this'll allow me to hammer out buildings and ships with minimal loss of productivity and population growth. Probably going to take a look in the newbie galaxy to test governor settings.

Alliances between two players are supported by the game.
It'd take a large network of treaties and everybody seeing everybody else (so they see you in Diplomacy) to make a Bay12 conglomerate, but it could be done.

Alright, I have signed up for 106. Looks like I will be supplying people with metal, as I have it on nearly every planet with one source of radioactives.

So... you and I are the metal industry, eh? 4 planets here, and nothing but.

I have 2 10 metal planets, a 7 crystals planet, a 6 radioactives planet and 2 and 4 deuterium planets.

So, I got everything except exotics covered.
