The brain has billions of neurons.
Each operate at 200hz. (compare with modern computers at Ghz)
DF is single threaded.

See, now the problem here is that I know he's serious.

Let's go back the the part of this thread where everyone is impressed by Kael's decision to become a wandering monk of one of the world's most peaceful and open-minded religions.
You mean the part of this thread where Armok the forum-goer was not present.

DISCLAIMER - this has to do with the original topic, and not the present discussion:

Kael, this sounds extremely neat, and to be honest is something I've always entertained thoughts about. How did you find connections enough to be able to do this? I've dabbled in Buddhist philosophy enough to know that, of world spiritualities, it comes closest to approximating my own life philosophies... something like this appeals immensely to me, if just for the experience.

DF is single threaded.

It has a fairly good ability to adapt any sufficiently analyzed program to it's system. However, some, let's assume half, of it must be devoted to the operating systm. Furthermore, communication between processing units is delayed by the clock rate, and it does not support overclocking, at least not in a controlled way that does not result in potential instabilities. Furthermore, other programs will be running other than the OS and DF, so DF will have further limited resources. Due to the linear nature of DF, most of it will be idling while it waits for other calculations. However, the pathfinding is really fast.

Overall, it just tends to generalize and bias too much to play a good game of DF, but as long as no external user requires the output, it should be satisfactory.

Actually, playing DF in your head would necessitate perfect recall, which I doubt many people are able to achieve. Also, assuming that even if you have perfect recall, your brain would have to make thousands of calculations without ever making a single mistake, which would be impressive, to say the least. Even assuming that you possessed the above abilities, the human mind is not suited to exactness, but rather to the general details, which explains the vagueness of dreams and memories produced. However, someone trained in meditation (like a monk!) could potentially have the mental aptitude to play DF in his mind.

Most well known peaceful and open minded religion. Taoism has it beat in peacefulness. There are no true Taoists who fight, after all, the tao ching, says
Quote
Wander the lands with no intent on getting somewhere. Accept anyone the knocks on your door. Give your sandals to someone that would steal them. The bad that do not value the good, and the good that do not love the bad are lost and confused. This is the essential wonder.

and,
Quote
A quiet voice of reason is louder than weapons of war.

Alas in the interest of non-conflict, I must say that, the teachings are mostly the same in intention, the only difference is that Lao-Tzu's teachings focus more on peaceful living in the now, while the teachings of Siddhartha focus more on living for the after life.

I think the Quakers are in the running here, but they never get any credit for their peacefulness or open-mindedness for some odd reason.

Connections to the Abrahamic faiths tends to kind of ruin a religions credibility in peacefulness. Not that I'm doubting the Quakers.

Ok, it seems there has been some misunderstandings here, from wath people have said to me in private: No posts by me have been indended as an attack on budism, or to imply I am better than anyone else (I am, but none of the posts in this thread before this one was suposed to mention it), and also the neuron thing was a silly joke. :P

Good for you Kael. Buddhists are some pretty awesome guys, even if I have trouble spelling the religions name.

Although, didn't the buddha sit under a tree for like 6 weeks? And he's always fat, at least in the general western eye. I mean, how did he manage that? :P

Just kidding man. Good luck.
