Say, how much money do we start with?

(Also, not understanding how starting skills work.)
$1000, unless you take a wealth modifier.

Here's a rundown of how to gen a character:
Optional: Get gcs (google it), it does all the maths and everything for you.
1. Think of a general character you want to make.
2. Do the core stats (ST, DX, IQ and HT). 10 is the average person (all tens cost zero points).
3. Put down other details (Name, height, religion, etc.).
4. Do the advantages and disadvantages. 5-10 advantages and about three disadvantages is about right.
5. Do the skills. This is where you put your unused points. Just put your remaining points into the skills you want your character to have.
6. Buy some items, make sure to stick to your tech level and the amount of money your character has.
7. Write up a short backstory.

As long as you think you can roleplay/represent them it shouldn't be a problem.

Wait, I didn't take any armor... is it assumed that our characters, if we purchase nothing, wear sub-standard clothes that offer no protection whatsoever?
