Does anyone remember the name of that other game where you start as a random person anywhere throughout the world and just try to survive? It's in the same vein as this game..
Real Lives, you mean?
I remember that. I tried making a Middle-Eastern guy do pretty much nothing but athletics, politics, and religion throughout his teen years. Oddly, he never joined Al-Queda. In fact, he showed absolutely no inclination towards any kind of violence or political activism. Then again, his life was going pretty decent overall.

Ah, thank you! Time to marry and divorce people for their money and sneak into countries just to impregnate as many women as possible.

First year - Civil War, but it doesn't damage too much.
Next two years - Bountiful harvests, I invest in livestock.
Fourth year - Chicken plague, followed by a couple years of struggle.
Eighth year - I invest in cotton, as the family's health is failing.
Next two years - Drought and blight.  Wife goes off to work, leaving behind $65.
Tenth year - Roving militia takes all my savings.
Eleventh year - Salesman offers poppy seeds.
Twelfth year - Head of family dies in airstrike.
Thirteenth year - Daughter marries away, leaving behind $16.
Fourteenth year - Crops return less than they cost, son finally succumbs to 14 health.

I remember the first time I played this a while ago, within 30 years I had a whole heard of elephants and harvesters and stuff, and thought it was too easy.  Oh well.

This is old news for me.
My tactic is to have a few kids, and just plant cotton and a bit of corn for food.
My reasoning (sorry but it's true) it worked for the south all those years ago, why not work for me?
except my kids arn't slaves and are treated right, I even build my farm into a whole city with the cash we made, I think in the end when I gave up I had 500,000.

The game tends to go one of two ways. Either you get screwed over so much you cant recover, but once you start going it gets hard to fail. At one point I needed to sell some buildings and rely totally on crops but I made it no problem.

I just one on turn 20. Apparently, how much money you have at the end has no impact on score.

I just started as a chinese girl in real lives, and after I completed secondary school I tried to marry my lover but it turned out she was also a woman. So I escaped to Sweden where I went to college, and in the middle of graduate school I got raped. Obviously, I tried to marry my new lover and it turns out that even Sweden wouldn't let me, so I walked on over to the Netherlands with my massive amounts of money from my job as a doctor, and eventually married someone there. She died when I was 60, and I married her sister. I spent most my life living in opulent conditions.
I later decided to make a woman in Sudan with max appearance and everything, but I died at age thirty without ever being raped...

Game 1: turn 1 my father almost dies and the RNG completely screws me over with tiny return on peanuts. Turn 2 gives me drought.Turn 3 sees father dead by poor health and mom by airstrike. Downward spiral due lack of money.
Game 2: Drought. Crippled right from the start.
Game 3: Bank crash. Dead in the water again.
Game 4: Won in 15 turns. 1035. Could have done 14 if not for a missclick with medicine leaving me $7 short of the last upgrade.
Game 5: Peanuts dead in turn 2, leaving me with $1. Crippled.
Game 6: I now have a well and 6 barns, 4 combines, 8 'phants, max educated children and am planting 15 peanuts everytime. I think I just won.

Your entire succes has absolutely nothing to do with skill but the luck that you don't get a negative event that completely negates your investment and starts you the following turn without enough money for anything.

Starting that live game now.

Edit: Wait, what, woah. They want a name and address for a demo??? Well fuck that.

full peanuts is a bad thing to do, since when peanuts fail, so do you. mix crops.

Honestly I think the 2007 version of Real Lives is better and they didn't have it available for download, so I just looked to other sources. Though yeah, fake info.

My wells would always collapse. Every single time I build one. It's like yeah, I get it. It's hard to be a poor African farmer- but I'd expect that the third time they dig a well, it'd STAY dug.
