Dude, I just realized that, from his accent, Esteban is apparently a French-Cuban member of the Cosa Nostra.

Huh. When Retro evolves I kinda wanna get his name changed to a Mafioso type thing now. Big Stu needs his men tough, you know?

Renames cost an arm and a leg. Or rather a heart scale, which is rather tough to find.

I like the idea of Joe, since a traditionally thug name, being the ultra-frail but smart (and capable of mental murder) Consigliere of the Family.

Isn't there always like one guy in a house somewhere that handles renames in each game? Gonna go look it up. e- Name changing is free, but can't be done until Slateport City (which I think comes into the game a while later). I'll just stick with Retro, though some nickname may come up in the future.

Also gonna look up this Cosa Nostra, you know?

e2- Found this handy chart on the wikipedia article for the sicilian mafia.

Presuming Esteban is the boss and Big Stu is the consigliere, that plops Retro into Underboss territory :D Though of course we're going to have to expand this protection racket if we really want to make the big-time.

Dude, I want a Bagon, if you please. I know we won't get one for a while, but what the hey. Name him Bruiser, if you please.

Update 04: Corporate Corruption
Recap: In the last update, Big Stu made his way through the depths of Petalburg Woods to arrive in Rustboro City.

To the Pokemon Center!

My Mudkip has a “gangster” nature, and my Zigzagoon has a “kleptomaniac” nature. Does that count?

Acid Trip sits in a forest!

Nowadays even the emo people like to put out signs!

Big Stu quickly makes off with a HM

Guy: “The police occasionally come to deport the sweatshop workers, though”

Old man: “But after making a deal with the Mafia, they’ve become the only company in the region!”

Hoenn’s school system is underfunded, because this is the only school for all fifteen cities and towns

…why are you sitting in the back watching the children?

Finally, a name for the bounty hunters!

Did you know there’s a guy sitting in the back?

Well whatever

Oh, a Gym!

It appears that Retro has managed to steal a Full Heal from someone

Esteban’s status grows!

Didn’t the two of you just see me kicking your friend’s ass over there?

Esteban instructs Wolf in the myriad ways of eliminating foes

Esteban’s Mentorship skill went up!

I battle with cool-type Pokemon!

It’s a mini-colossus!

Esteban doesn’t take kindly to all this “IMMA GYM LEADER!” crap

While Roxanne is distracted, Retro does “the usual”, namely stealing as much money as he can carry

Wow, for once Big Stu managed to get something legally!

Retro hits the jackpot!

Oh, it’s Mr. Lame-ass Pirate!

Yeah like he’ll listen to you

Whoa dude, no need to shout!

Can I have a finder’s fee if I recover them?

Ah, Route 116

Hello little psychic fox creature!

The perfect name

That one Wurmple provided enough exp. for them to level up!

Red Baron: The Scourge of Plants!

InsJoe: The Scourge of animate rocks!

InsJoe is like a seagull of doom

This tunnel is surprisingly foggy, despite being underground.

That wasn’t much of a ‘getaway', I spent so much time chasing you and still managed to corner you

Yes

GHOST!

Wolf faces down his old nemesis like before

Unlike before, however, he WINS!

Wolf is spurred on by his victory!

He learns better ways to fight dirty!

At this point, Big Stu loses his patience and knocks him out, and Retro ‘recovers’ the Devon Goods

You know you could have called the police or something, right?

Something troubles me. It is your LACK OF COMMON SENSE

You mean the one that had a complete and utter lack of any valuables and also lacked a door?

No thanks to you

You know, there are such things as a postal service. You might have heard of them sometime

Is he a Mafia boss?

Well, guess he just another rich old Republican, with a Fortune 500 company and Swiss bank account.

I DID NOT AGREE TO THAT, YOU ASS

Again, there are such things as the postal service. Or have you not heard of it too?

I WANT A REWARD!

Well, consider yourself saved from the wrath of Esteban…for now

I would suggest that you watch yourself first…

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I recovered important goods and all I got was this Pokenav!

"Nowadays even the emo people like to put out signs!" Pffftahahaha.

It sounds like a little bit of grunt work and we can take over this "Devon" operation. Clearly they could use some more ambitious leadership.

Make it female, it's a total sausage fest in your group right now. Name her Báthory and also, magikarp evolve in gyarados at level twenty.

Man, I just realized that the old guy uses corporal punishment.

And think about it: since Quick Claw only works for Pokemon, he's using Pokemon for beating his students. Bad teacher. Badass, though.

Ah, right, Big Stu would be the consigliere. He handles all the thorny legal issues, keeps Esteban's soldiers out of trouble. Retro can't be the Underboss, though, he's too involved in the street-level of the protection racket. Once he becomes a Linoone, though, he'll have the proper sophistication to be an Underboss.

Red Baron's just a soldier, but his actions in Dewford will earn him the respect he deserves!

I've yet to see a cuban Zubat in need of a good job to feed his familly join your group.

Edit. Cuban is much better.

just curious, how high-ranking would a mysterious evil force from a time before time that has possessed a dark-type pokemon be?

I think it's forgetting Hm's that need a heart scale.

He's right! We need popcorn and we need it fast Heart scales are needed for the move tutor (or move eraser)! I had forgotten.

Close, but no cigar. It's the move relearner.

In other news, who should I teach Cut to? I don't want Cut on any main pokemon, since the move deleter is ages away.

I've yet to see a cuban Zubat in need of a good job to feed his familly join your group.

Edit. Cuban is much better.

It'll be in the next update, which will probably be Dewford Gym and Granite Cave, unless you all want it to be separate updates.

Update probably Friday.

Also regarding the whole Mafia thing, I see Esteban as the boss, with Retro as part enforcer/thief. Big Stu is kind of the "boss-behind-the-boss", so to speak.
