After the party, I spoke with some of the dwarfs in private to get some things moving in the correct direction. First I spoke with Derm, and told him he could have his five dwarfs to get the military started. I had been going over the dwarfs immigration papers while the others partied, and assigned him the following dwarfs:

Kadol Zonelis, for his prior training with a mace
Morul Itdunlogem, for his prior training with axes
As Arroskel, for his prior training with a pike (claims also to be a soap maker, like we need soap right now)
Avuz Atrbkst, because one of the dwarfs that arrived is a better miner
Ushat Astendok, for no other reason than she happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time

Next up, I called the child Nil Thobrith into my office and told him that he could have the old bookkeeper's office and the area that was going to be his room. I then told him that I would keep the bookkeeper position open until he grew up, and then it would be his.

Also, one of the new guys was claiming to be a bone doctor, so I called him into my office and told him that he was now the new chief medical dwarf. Other dwarfs had already training in diagnosing problems with other dwarfs, but he was the only one with any sort of training on actually fixing problems. Not sure I want him fixing problems though until he gets better at figuring out what the problem is.

On a final note, I can see that our mad genius thinks of the new migrants much the same way I do at the moment. I just hope he's joking about drowning them all. Wouldn't be hard really, just tell everyone they need to come into the fortress, then have one miner remove the stairs to get out while the other one breached the wall protecting us from the ocean. I'll consider that plan B.

11th of Felsite 1052
All the fields have been assigned, and crops are being planted. Hopefully the below assignment will provide enough verity of crops.

Code: [Select]
Spring Summer Autumn Winter
Field 1 Sweet Pod Sweet Pod Cave Wheat Plump Helmet
Field 2 Sweet Pod Cave Wheat Cave Wheat Plump Helmet
Field 3 Rock Nuts Rock Nuts Rock Nuts Plump Helmet
Field 4 Dimple Cup Pig Tail Pig Tail Dimple Cup
Field 5+6 Plump Helmet Plump Helmet Plump Helmet Plump Helmet

Though if some dwarf with training in such matters told me a better plan, I would be open to trying it out.

Also I'm a bit confused on what I need to provide for the military so that they can do proper training. Military matters are rather beyond me honestly.

I'm thinking I'm going to abandon this fortress. Well save and quit more exactly. If anyone wants the save file (though I don't know why you would), I'll keep it for a while. I'm just really bothered with how things are going in this fortress and how everything is starting to sprawl out without any sort of rhyme or reason to it. Yes I know some people find those fortresses to be enjoyable, but I really only find them enjoyable when it's a succession game. For my own forts I like things to be much better organized and this is just not cutting the cake.

It works because it's dwarf logic. The only problem had been I had been slow about getting it done, so dwarfs had been dying of thirst when they ran out of booze.
