I don't actually have picks so I can't exactly have a cave-in. When (if) I get migrants I'll dorf you both as well as re-dorf those that have died.

what will prevent you from BUILDING walls above the floor to be cave-in'd on support and then blow it up with a lever?

Lever needs stone, it would have to be done by deconstructing a supporting floor tile.

There would be the risk of knocking dwarf off, who then falls one level to the ground and breaks his neck ;D

I'll take a dwarf and a place in line.  An engineer named Connor, or something similar.

Its funny i started a peasant fort with the express idea of keeping the poor suckers aboveground. No picks, no axes. Found out later that my civ is dead, and there have been no traders in the second year. Fortress of 12 and their kids. Awesome. Rebuild dwarven civilization with WOOD.

Sorry for my long hiatus, I've just been really busy lately. However I finally got a chance to do some dfing. Here's a long overdue update;

26th of Malachite

Not much has happened lately. I hope the caravan is here in early fall...

1st of Galena

Well it seems more people have joined our colony of the damned. I don't know what they did to deserve this but they're here with us now.

First there's Zulban. He killed the foreman at his construction site in an on-the-job accident. The King gave him the choice of a hammering or coming here. He obviously chose the latter.

Then there's Mosus. She was an relatively unknown crafter back in the mountain homes. In an attempt to gain renown she broke into her main rival's house, stone some of her crafts and tried to pass them off as her's. Didn't work.

There's also Athel. He stole some plump helmets to feed his family. Doctor's like us just aren't appreciated there.

Lorbam is an odd one. He actually came here by choice. He said that he couldn't stand living in the mountain homes not knowing what was out in the wastes. Go figure.

And lastly there's Bezmar. She got exiled when she botched surgery on the King's nephew. Well not exactly exiled. Apparently she was chased by royal guards through the wastes for 2 weeks before she finally lost them. And then as if by chance she met up with the others. They happily took her along as none of them had particular love for the King.

2nd of Galena

The migrants report that a tiger watched them from a bush as they came in.

3rd of Galena

I've ordered a craftsdwarves shop constructed. We need goods for when the caravan arrives. I've also told one of the Mosus to be the woodcrafter. After all she knows what crafts the mountain homes want. And she has experience with stone crafting. I'm sure some of the same principles apply.

5th of Galena

I've told Mosus to make crafts until further notice. Not much for the rest of us to do.

6th of Galena

She's finished some crafts. Not the prettiest things but she assures me that they're all the rage in the mountain homes. On a side note Eclipsetail was bugging me about making more animal traps today. Seems like she liked digging through frozen dirt looking for bugs. Like we need any more vermin in this fort.

9th of Galena

Alright these crafts are kind of creepy. I went to inspect what she had done and found that she had made a figurine of herself and a figurine of a giant roach. She assures me that the dwarves of the mountain homes will find it to have a "rustic charm." On a more practical note I'm thinking of making a stockpile for these goods. I don't want her space getting too cluttered.

10th of Galena

Now that is art! Something that inspiring gives me hope for this fort.

13th of Galena

I felt my offic- *cough cough* the hospital needed some sprucing up. So I ordered some chests be built for it. And they look quite nice!

15th of Galena

Well I've decided against a stockpile for crafts. In fact I've stopped the production of crafts. We have enough for now. I've also added some new doors to add in fortress defense. I was originally going to build a moat but this'll have to do for now. I'm also drawing up plans for a house of mine. After all I am the expedition leader, appointed by the king himself! Why should I live in a crowded shack when I command the resources and manpower to build a better house!

16th of Galena

I've told every non-working dwarf to start construction. Except Mosus. Andreus refuses to chop trees claiming that she's "on break." I've told Mosus to take over her duties. Sometimes she's irritating but she's a good friend nonetheless so I've cut her a break.

17th of Galena

This area must be known for it's shape-shifting predatory cats.

18th of Galena

Andreus is back at work and my house is beginning to take shape. This floor will be the dining room while I sleep in the attic.

25th of Galena

Being caught on the roof during a snowstorm is not fun.

1st of Limestone

Well it's now Autumn. Things are looking up. The traders will be here soon and soon I'll have a nice place to live!

If you want one of the migrants simply post a request for one. I didn't want to assign them to people because firstly I'm lasy and secondly people should get to chose.

I'll have a future immigrant, or a currently worthless dwarf.

Make him an Axedwarf and head of the military. Name: Derm. Custom Profession: Soulchopper.

Sorry already got a head of the military. The Warsmith cannot be deposed. I currently don't have enough dwarves to go round, however if someone doesn't want one I'll give it to you. Do you want to be added to the turn list?

Wow, this becomes more epic with each update :) Did you read Song of Ice and Fire before you wrote histories for migrants? It's pretty similar to the requirements for Night Watch there, along with an occasional volunteer :)
