were wolves nerfed?

i decided to start an adventure on the latest version and choose no weapon skill just a bunch of others like knapping and swimming and misc.ing and stuff. so the game starts me out with a copper spear and dagger and i equip the dagger
first kill: a wolf cleaved in half by my dagger
second kill:a wolf cleaved in half by my dagger
third kill: wolf cleaved in half by my dagger
4th:decapitated wolf by dagger
5th-7th:wolves bled to death
and then i was quickly done away by a minotaur in thick fog.
did toady nerf wolves on the fact that too many player had them as top teir for their main death?
or are daggers suddenly epic CUTTING weapons rather then stabbing weapons?

wow for a second I thought you mean WEREWOLVES?

but sadly yes they were nerfed back in 31.01 toady one said small creatures won't instant kill you but will cause small damage that will 'stay' with you.

Wait. I think we need to nerf daggers, actually.

At any rate, the Large Dagger has always been a deadly slashing weapon against anything unarmored and your size, even in 40d.

And spears,spears cut almost everything in half,its like they are lightsabers.

One moment you've got a fully armored goblin, next moment you've got a red mess of parts.

Lashes are hideously nasty now too; when they headshot the opponent they turn his head into a pot of mush. Dunno if Toady's fixing whips next version.

so doesn't that mean we need to armor every one to make things even?
which would make killing hordes of wolves a long and pretty out number fight?
not a bad thing when one could reaction mod some magic to kill them and tip the scale, sucks for those with just spears and daggers though.

the main power of wolf is in numbers, that and lucky shorts.
and if you have ever had a adventure pass out in a wolf pack then you hace seen just how good thay are a biteing your hamstrings

But unfortunately wolves cannot use their powerful lucky shorts because they cannot wear clothes. It's a tragedy, really.

i guess at some rate your corect, but maybe daggers should be stabbing weapons with a low stick in rate as they actually are, rather then really acurate swords excluding times where you are  being beaten to death by a minotaur and can't hit it even once for some reason.
also i noticed in the latest version that you can chip a bone rather than bruising it, making sharpened rocks a bit more brutal than they would otherwise be.

I think the problem is that when Toady made the Large Dagger, he was thinking less of the misericorde and more of a bowie knife.
