Balrogs numbered in the dozens in the First Age. The elves could take them down. One wizard alone, however, is not enough.

source: The Silmarillion

Thats not saying much since the Elves have ALOT of power at their disposal.

Fine, I'll just go with this thing...

And if that fail due to the invulnerability clause, I will just have to settle for Tex...

Being frozen was more of a problem than being shattered into innumerable pieces, each no larger than a toe, and neither of those could really be considered to be fatal, unless there was a reasonable expectation of maintaining the frozen state. Also there are ways to kill superman, the example for invulnerability, but that doesn't exclude him.

Unless that wasn't sarcasm, in which case

The elves back then were practically demigods. Their king made Morgoth cry like a bitch (though he died in the process). First Age elves were seriously overpowered.

And the Balrogs are corrupted Maiar, just like Sauron. Gandalf is a straight up regular Maia. So, technically they're all angels and beyond the scope of this contest.

Not my fault that you can't tell gender in those suits and I had the sound off.

Still, the fact that they got completely beaten up by a girl makes it even funnier.

If you've seen that video then you know why it's a bad idea to piss off Tex.

Selection pressure.  All the wimpy balrogs died off and got eaten.

Not to mention Durin's Bane in particular was apparently one of the stronger ones to begin with.

Though it must be mentioned that Gandalf totally won that fight. He just died of his injuries a short time later.

EDIT: How would Aragorn do in this contest?

Probably not too well. He's good, but the only magic he's ever seen is gandalf(who uses his VERY sparingly) and his ghost army. He would have no idea how to fight a lot of these people.

Okay, how about Fingolfin, then? He was the elf that wounded (but didn't kill) Morgoth.

True, but he'd probably be able to survive against the less magical combatants. If he did face magic he'd just have to be quick on his feet. Though Terra and Mustang are probably a few notches above him even at his best.

And I think Fingolfin would be OK. Most elves excluding Glorfindel, Galadriel and maybe Celeborn would work for this contest. But that's just my opinion.
