Guts has a freaking cannon in his arm doesn't he? Is there a reason it is not being mentioned?

Plus his repeater crossbow plus the giant sword. And Ajax spends most of his time fighting humans while guts fights demonic gods.

Ajax is a badass no doubt but I think in a one on one fight Guts would dominate.

Hmm, that's true. Of all the Iliad heroes, only Diomedes has the credit of bitchsmacking two gods (Ares and Aphrodite). Ajax's 28 kills were mostly enemy lords, though, and the Iliad treats important people like Dynasty Warriors does: they're simply better than commoners.

If I recall correctly, he can; in his first foray in the berserker armour, he fires it at an apostle opponent.

Wrong, actually. He killed 28 people in single combat. He killed some of those while they were getting help from the gods themselves. He killed innumerable Trojans, but they were killed too quickly to each have their own lines. Also, Ajax has a shield that was made of seven entire cow hides and layered with bronze. I don't think a sword would easily break through that, considering the average shield (not even one whole cow hide) was enough to stop a bronze sword.

True, but you are underestimating Guts' sword. It's not sharp like most swords, it's more like a hammer that can also chop you in half. Blocking it is not nearly as preferable as just dodging it outright, due to the shock a blow would give you.
