The best embark spot I could find was a Joyous Wilds Volcano + Sand + 2 layers of salt water.

Damn nobles. "Oh there will be plenty of building stuff!" Heh. Yeah. Wood. We've got lots of wood, and a little stone, but if the miners' prospecting is right, we're screwed on stone. Saltwater aquifers in the first two layers. Fuck. First things first, I check what we have. A little food, some cloth, and sand. Lots of sand. Looks like someone had a fetish for it. I order some space carved out, and have most of our stuff moved there. I then have as much wood cut as I can. I get a carpentry made, and some bins for food and sand. In addition, we got some beds and a dining room made. It isn't much, but it's home for now.
Then it hits me. Sand + fire = glass. Useful glass. I have a wood furnace and a glass counterpart made of the little stone we brought. I myself work on making charcoal and glass stuff, but I've grown bored of leading. 1 and a half months in, I quit.

Work on making food and glass. And get wood cut. Don't mess with the stone or wood yet.
