What exactly are slopes?
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:20:04 am »

As we know, every mountain in the world is not a series of ramps. This leads to my theory that some natural "ramps" or slopes as they are called are actually walls that are easy to climb. What do you guys think about this?

The learning curve of the df forums should be equal to that of df itself.

Natural ramps are called "slopes" in the game.

It just means that terrain is not perfectly flat,
but rather slopes from one altitude to the next.

Because every mountain isn't a step pyramid either.

It's an abstraction, necessitated by DF's tyle-based world representation.

I think the distinction is meaningless.

Last week. Our grandma's goats in her village run up almost vertical walls on our barn. But other critters can't do such a task :P.

Darn Soviets, training their goats to work as undercover KGB agents. The CIA thought of it first!

Actually, part of what annoys me is that mountains theoretically block overland travel on the world map... except in the local map, a wagon can actually go almost flying with only one tile on a ramp, and all its other tiles hanging over a 45-degree slope around it.

Yeah, sure, there's erosion, but it shouldn't be so easy to traverse a mountain that it's basically as easy to traverse as flat open grasslands.

Multi-tile entities will always be something this game struggles with.

How many are there? Only wagons as far as I know. Let's keep it that way. =3

I really don't think that Bronze Colossi are single tile creatures.
