Poor dorf  :(

What do I need to do to stop such a thing?

I have 32 idlers, including my chief of med. who has everything health related enabled.

The dorf just lay there screaming and bleeding in intense pain. I have no idea how he got there or what happened to him, but nobody helped!! he was the only dorf in the hospital.

Patient name: Iden Regsubil. Time of death. 22:18 GMT.
He was a multi-talented craftsdwarf. the only one in the fortress who out-skilled the chief of medicine

He took time with his decisions, as he constantly strived for excellence. A self diciplined dwarf with a fertile imagination. He will be missed.

I've had similar things happen, and it's worthwhile to build a cave-in system over your hospital to re-injure dwarves that slip through the cracks in the system. Just keep dropping boulders on them, or preferably near them, and eventually the med dwarf will wake up and go treat them.

I had the same problem, where one of my dorfs literally melted in the hospital bed after a FB attack.

As for figuring out what happened, open gamelog.txt in your main DF folder. It contains all announcements and combat/sparring/hunting logs.

Good idea JniF!

oh..

not the most noble death  :(

Iden Regsubil, Craftsdwarf cancels Dump Item: Interrupted by Buzzard.
The Buzzard attacks The Craftsdwarf but He jumps away!
The Craftsdwarf slams into an obstacle!
The Craftsdwarf gives in to pain.

I guess he jumped away.. down a cliff.. or off the entrance bridge  :(

Then seemingly dragged himself to hospital and bled to death! lovely!

From what I've seen doc dwarves can be kind of slow about it so you really have to encourage them (disable labors) and make sure they have everything they need to provide treatment. Even then I saw a lot of pauses between treatment steps, for instance, instead of cleaning all of a patient's wounds, the doctor cleaned them one at a time, taking a walk over to the meeting hall in between. I had a lot of luck on one fort with medical care, probably over a dozen dwarfs treated, but I basically had to drop everything and make sure the process went along as quickly as possible, any time a dwarf got injured.

Don't give the CMD any labors, even medical-related ones, except for diagnosis. That way, he's always available for diagnosing patients, leaving the actual treatment to his medical underlings.

Still, it's possible for him to completely ignored regardless. In that case, the only solution, as has been suggested, is to re-injure them.
