Looking at this many months later, I have to wonder: why doesn't the raptor have [CANOPENDOORS]? ;-)

You have inspired me to start drawing a Dwarf Fortress comic. I'm off to find a scanner.

How would a raptor open a door without any thumbs? They just have claws, it would be like grues opening doors (and we all know they can't do that)

I didn't know that Grues required a direct path to their victims; I thought they could just teleport in to any dark place.

I imagine that a raptor could either claw through the doors, or leap at the doorknob repeatedly; I know that dogs are capable of the latter.

I didn't think that a velociraptor was large enough to take down a schoolchild on its own, though. A dynannychius, sure, but a velociraptor? (Sorry for butchering both of those names, by the way.)

I (and Randall Munroe at xkcd, where that comic is from) were playing more along the lines of the deinonychus/Jurassic Park velociraptor. ;-)

Even a cat can open a door so a raptor wouldn't have much problem with it. If the animal can reach the handle it can open the door.

If those JRLIONER creatures and the such are supposed to be the kids of the LIONER creatures , then arent they supposed to have a CHIlD line in the LIONER definition, rather than have a seperate defination all their own.

For instance, wouldn't the LIONER have something like this:

   [CHILD:3][CHILDNAME:lioner kitten:lioner kittens]

Yeah, could do that, but you'll never see them if that happens.

If it bugs you so much, add that line to all the adults (make sure they are the same name as them, and are addressed as jr.).  Then only add the adult creatures to the recommended text file.

This is an engraving of a dwarf and an ankylosaur. The dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. The ankylosaur is laughing at the dwarf.

I'd reccomend making the bullet damage to be gore or pierce. Other than that, good job.

reading the part about rifles makes me want to have gunpowder in fortress mode

bombs could be set up with a fuse(timed) or remote controlled with a lever or mechanisms

just think of the possibilities, with the army arc you could send sappers on a (suicide) mission to place demolition charges in hostile fortresses, "mining" 9x9 or even larger areas but instantly causing a much denser cave in(like said 9x9 area being filled up again and the tunnels leading up to it as well), minefields to keep invaders out, private firework shows for your nobles...

we just need to pray that our haulers dont suddenly drop timed 13x13+ bombs in the middle of a crowded area and go to sleep...

@Naminator: Pretty cool!  However, only amateurs slash with a knife.  A knife is a stabbing weapon, piercing in this game sense.  If you want to kill someone from behind, for instance, you use your free left hand to fold their left arm over their torso, slide your right arm under their right arm, then stab into their abdomen, pull sideways to expose their viscera, pull the knife out, cut from top to bottom of their sternum, and finally stab up and into their heart.  The idea of evisceration (a very quick move) is to guarantee death due to peritonitis even if they manage to escape the rest of your assassination attempt.

...I've never put this into practice, don't worry.  Actually, as someone who wants to be a police officer, it's a little surprising I know the method in the first place. ;-)
