Here's my Duergar. They replace goblins in some areas. They are dwarf sized, they siege (and pick locks, so locking your doors when the seige hits won't keep them out) and they steal children. I love em.

The chocobo is mostly based off of horses.  I don't know for sure the plural of chocobo so I just assumed it's the kind that dosn't have the s at the end.
I tested them in fortress mode. You can bring them with you, they appear pulling wagons, and I have seen them in groups wandering outside. Haven't tested them in adventure mode because my test fortress turned into a full fledged monster that I don't want to give up.
EDIT: made the parts list 2 lines so it dosn't blow out the thread. Need to stick it back together so it dosn't break in game.

I'm not certain if this will work (I haven't tested it), but another possibility is to make the corpse drop a "ready-made" weapon with

and adding an appropriate item entry (in matgloss_sandworm.txt?):

I'll make the vein strangling later ( and small potato monsters.. would be great if they could randomly appear from certain crops!), but here's my potato monster that's gigantic, has no natural armor, it's bite is extremely powerful, it's slow, and it's really only a boss monster.. of death.(This should be right...)
