Freedom Force, "For Freedom!"
« on: July 18, 2010, 10:42:56 pm »

So for those of you who dont know, Freedom Force is a squad based rpg revolving around superheroes. It looks, feels, and plays like a comic book straight out of the Silver age of comics. You get to defend Patriot city from;

Cliche Communists

Crazy Underground People

And much more!

Its a pretty fun game. I just dug it out of my old pile of games a couple of days ago and started playing it again. Has anyone else played this, or its sequel?

Hey isn't this that game I own, loved, never beat, and that won't run on newer versions of windows? Oh, it is. :(

I loved creating custom supes in FF, with powers like causing random shit to violently explode...good times...good times...

I have this too, but I haven't played it in forever.  I also loved it but never beat it.  My problem was that when I got it my computer couldn't run it, and when my computer was finally good enough to run it I no longer had a CD-Key (That was before I understood cracks)

I really wanted to play multiplayer, but it died before I could play.

I played the sequel and there is something VERY interesting about the difficulty settings

On Normal and lower the Silver Age heros seem amazing! They deal great damage, have great abilities, and some of them can strike FAST!

However as soon as you put the game to Hard... They do terribly (Tricolor being the worst) and the battles where you have to use them you notice. Not to mention the Gorilla warriors suddenly become dangerous due to their ability to fling your heros to the other side of the moon.

It probably has the largest jump in gameplay I've seen between normal and hard. Mind you the bosses seem pretty much the same. It is the levels that really change due to how much of a threat everything suddenly becomes. (Most bosses weren't really fun as the #1 strategy they used was EXTREMELY long periods of invulnerability)

Is it the same with the first game?

Ahh... I remember this game. I was almost done the last mission, realized I'd picked a few teammates badly, and was too lazy to restart.

...I should really just suck it up and finish it off. I mean, sure, the plot is clichéd, and I can probably guess the ending... but that's half the fun!

Oh, and it's only $7.50 on Steam for both FF and the sequel. And it's aged remarkably well, at least in my opinion. Definitely worth picking up if you're interested! (And no, this is not advertising!)

I wish they would make a third... even if the second is a rushed shell of what they had planned (for example despite referencing super powered Nazis... There are only two in the entire game)

If you're only at the floating island, then trust me you cant guess the ending. They throw a curve on that, a cliche curve, but still a curve

Freedom Force seems to love overly extended endings.

Freedom Force 2 has at least 3-4 parts that COULD have been the ending but weren't

You're kidding me. Geez, now I really need to go finish that.

The first game was glitched for me, the graphics were all crazy, but i loved the second one, i completed almost a third of it in one setting only to loose it all to a power failure, didn't play it much after that, but i think i might dig up the CD again

I tried #1 (I think once) but couldn't get over a) perma-death during the mission b) having to find all health kits and c) thugs with guns or any weapon wiped up the floor with my heroes. It seemed fun, but I wanted something a little closer to a beat-em-up, and less "do it right the first time or you suck" strategy game.
