Outside a cave, that is beneath a mansion, that has a tower, with an ordinary house on top, all of which are on an island that is wandering around a barren tundra on three giant legs.

My vote changes to this, SO MUCH AWESOME

(One note: I'm gonna try to make this a bit faster paced than most of the others, meaning you will reach a respectable level of power relatively quickly.)
They could have tasted power, but they decided to make me a serf. For the storytelling purposes, I hope.

I believe they chose serf because you said they would learn faster.

And erm... I'll be boring and go with 3.

FUCK YEAH!

Also, Man of SCIENCE!! is deliberately a bit slower-paced in the ratio of progress to updates, at least for now. The fact that they're still looting a junkyard and don't have a bigger robot is, er, mostly my fault.

Looks like 7 wins by a large margin, no reason to wait any longer. Well, on the bright side, this is a pretty unique setting... on the other hand I'm gonna be winging a lot of it, so we'll see how this goes!

Your apprenticeship complete, you have moved into your family's ancestral home, a large mansion overlooking the barren wasteland far below the Walker. Walkers are magical creatures, created by mages of ages long past in response to what ever it was that ravaged the surface of the planet, they are 4 legged creatures(3 would have to tilt the entire island drastically to move) with thick layers of stone and dirt piled onto their backs that slowly travel the land, deriving sustenance from some unknown means. Each is usually ruled by a single government, with different "countries" only interacting when the walkers move close enough together to easily travel between. But all of this is common knowledge and you have no idea why you are thinking about it at the moment. Anyway, the most valuable part of your estate is not within the mansion itself, but hidden within a cliff below. Here, in a cave system reachable only through a secret passage inside your chambers, is a large magical laboratory, set up by one of your ancestors generations ago. It's a bit lacking in resources, but apart from a few recent innovations it contains every tool a mage could possibly need for his work. It even contains a number of books detailing the basics of the many schools of magic. You set to work cleaning out one section of the lab, dusting off the unused tools and making sure they are ready for use. After all, these tools and manuscripts are devoted to your favorite branch of magical study.

And what school of magic is that?(second and third place will be the secondary specialties)

(Yes, I'm ignoring the "with an ordinary house on top" part. Why? Because, having a house on top of a mansion makes no sense, it's just part of the mansion.)

The house was balanced on top of the tall tower that reached out of the of the mansion, though it is still redundant...

You most enjoyed the curiosities that could be conjured from other places and the convenience of teleportation.

Why of Course! Our favorite magic was the magic of Alteration! the skill to bend reality and allow me to walk on air, water or even breath water like air. We also studyed enchanting and illusion, they would both prove useful

Quote from: Given no options...
Elementalism - (Water/Earth/Fire/Air).
The Mirrored Path (Light and Dark).
Life, Death, and Rebirth.
Mysticism (Powerful Vagueness, of Spirit, Divination, and magic-control.)
Mind/Illusion.
Transmutation, Alteration, and Polymorph.
Alchemy; the magic chemistry equivalent.
Enchantment/Spellweaving.

 You found yourself entranced, not by the effects of your spells, but by their mechanisms. You learned how to manipulate what was obscured to other mages, and totally concealed to anyone else. You can undo

Predit: I seem to be very slow. I wanted to make a point of the fact there was no list of choices, so as long as we are within a certain amount of scope, our chosen "school" can be anything. I would also like to see ~Phoenix school, consider it contains those that are reborn, including undead. Depending on inclination, we may be one who moves the cycle forward at opportune times, or moves it back unnaturally.

Edit:
Quote from: Nivm
Fire - The magic of Destruction. (What is fire? It destroys, it transmutes, it purifies, it illuminates, it dances, it may comfort, it eats, it breathes, it grows, and it may be snuffed out an any moment.)
...
Air - The magic of Flight. (What is air? It is everywhere, it is light, it flies, it moves, it plays, it fuels, it can build a charge, it is used to speak, it is fickle, and never stays in one place long.)
...
Water - The magic of Change. (What is water? It takes any shape, it divides, it flows, it erodes, it washes clean, it drives the weather and controls the climate, it may be used as a mirror, it can carry a vessel, and life wouldn't exist without it.) {Water is a very broad school of magic.}
...
Earth - The magic of Strength. (What is earth? It is solid, heavy, mostly unchanging, it supports, it contains riches and dangers, which although unknown are not mysterious, it remembers, and it bears life.) {Since each element contributes to life, and symbolizes it to some degree, shouldn't their be a greater tie between the Elemental and Self schools?}

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Ok, slight revision, because otherwise no one is gonna agree on anything: everyone gets three votes. No, you can't vote for the same school more than once.
