My current Spriggan is doing good so far, a few dangerous situation, but nothing impossible yet.
Cleaned fully Orc and Lair (in Lair:8 i met some kind of cavern full of bears, fortunately hibernation helped a very lot as they were very numerous, confusion helped for the polar version immune to hibernation).

On D:15 when i arrived there was an unique i never met near the stairs, fortunately for me it was sleeping, the unique name is Aizul.
what was hilarious is his description :
Quote
Once the primary guardian serpent of a legendary treasure hoard, he was disgraced after thieves looted it while he slept.
Funny to think the monster has not learned his lesson ;)
I stabbed and killed it immediately while he was sleeping as apparently without poison resistance he would have certainly killed me if awake.

In a previous dungeon floor i met a strange configuration.
In the middle of the floor there was a huge circular structure, in one of the side a double door.
I opened it and inside there is some kind of island surrounded by magma.
In this island a bunch of demons.

I thought it could be one of those altars, similar to the ones you see usually in early dungeon floor, but the 2 fireballs i immediately recieved and nearly killed my character made me understood that it was not.

As there is no way for me to return there as i don't have a death wish, anyone visited this kind of structure ?
I wonder what was in there to have so many demons, some of them very powerfull apparently :

(screenshot of the SHIFT+X map, as i am not crazy enough to get back there for a tile screenshot ;) )

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

It's probably a portal to the Vestibule of Hell. Usually those show up later but occasionally there is an early one with guards.

Could be some portal to a hellish place, but it was on D:13 or D:14, no way i'll go check that again unless i can summon armies of demons for myself ;)

Wow. I found a vault on D:18 filled with monsters called "ancient champions". They were holding some very nice weapons (lots of branded triple swords and great maces). Which weapon should I use for the rest of the game?

Code: [Select]
+1,+2 dwarven battleaxe of pain
+6,+8 dwarven broad axe (of pain)
+5,+5 executioner's axe of the Open Hand {speed, *TELE EV+2 SInv}

My skills: 16 Necromancy, 14 Axes, 14 Dodging, 10 Fighting, and 7 Shields

For those wondering how effective heavy armour is, here's a demonstration at AC 21:

Um, the broad axe if you've got any intention of using non-magical shields. It's the only one that's half-handed. Actually, I'd probably recommend the broad axe anyway, I think, unless you've got enough enchant scrolls to boost up the battleaxe. I don't think a speed brand can top 16 necro pain, so unless you've a pressing need for SInv...

EDIT: Oh, wait. Strike that, probably the executioner's axe. Even rN+ completely negates the pain brand, apparently. Still, if you're using shields, use the broad axe until you find something better, like speed or electrocution, maybe vamp.

Re: AC: I've got a ridiculous MDFi going on offline that's got 34 or so AC (+6 gold dragon armor), and either mid thirties or low forties SH (Depending on if I'm using shield or large shield). No EV though, but it doesn't seem to much matter. Critter's a bloody tank anna'half.

Forgot to mention, a few days ago i was amazed at my starting location, there was in the same screen a crystal plate mail armour

Amazed because since i play Crawl i don't remember having seen one.

Amazed because of course i was playing a fighter a few games before and now i was playing with a Spriggan Wizard that not only couldn't wear it but even if he could would have nullified his spellcasting ability.

It confirms that inside the crawl code there's some unthinkable evil manipulating the random numbers.

Holy damn, didn't except getting this far with a Naga Monk, though I played it safe with Chei, using the Naga's natural slowness to build up piety before throwing on ponderous armor. Then I cleared a few levels and kept finding armor, lastly even a naga barding. I'm now wearing all 5 possible ponderous armors and the stat boost is huge. Strength 29 and Dexterity 31 on a XL:10 character, pretty nice.

I'm way past the score to beat, but I hope I'll get far. Finally a great Cheibriadonian!

Sometime luck is on my side ... my little Spriggan killed Mara !
* Robsoie happy.

Though that means the game will give me a stupid impossible situation soon to kill my character :D

Unhappy to have not found any Jiyva altar, and those stupid "the wall hurts you" are extremely annoying, my corrosion resistance help only 4/5 times, like if Slime Pits was not difficult enough ...

Slime pits is not so difficult providing you have corrosion proof gear. I like to dig/disintegrate around the stairs etc. so there is a clear path where no damage is taken.

My character ust died not only because of an eye (the small ones, not even the bigger nastiers version) appearing out of a slimy corridor corner and immediately paralyzed me while 3 small green slimes creatures were hammering at me.

Not only because my summoned nearly dozen of acid blobs and azure jellies (thanks shadow summon, really thanks) did not bothered to attack them and were standing there.

The real  reason was that due to all those walls splashing acid, i was down to only 50% of my health and when the paralysis occured, i had no chance to blink away before the remaining 50% of my health would have been eaten.

And as my paralysis occured at a wall corner, each turn the acid damaged me again, so much for the "amulet corrosion protect you 90% of the time" and "take a cloack for additional 50% of chance to be protected".
Just moving through a corridor and half my health was already away.

Making splashing acid walls was the most unfun idea the developer have implemented.

Well i'm halfway through hell, and got cast into the abyss at last, i'm down to 11mp, which is shaving kinda close to the 8 i need to pull out angels and daveas,  Is there a command to see the turn count or should i just rely on char dumps? Never mind, see it now.

I'm at 5 runes, (6 if i get abyssal) but I'm unsure if I'll have enough MP to give Pan a try, are pan lords worse than hell bosses?

Tomb and Hell are harder than Pandemonium. Antaeus is the hardest demon lord in Hell and Cerebov is the hardest demon lord in Pan. Asmodeus is about the same as Dispater. Mnoleg is the weakest demon lord in the game. Lom is dangerous, but easy to steal from. Gloorx isn't that tough.
