Robsoie, you probably have some scrolls of fog laying around that seemed useless to you. Try one of those next time an unseen horror comes around.

Didn't thought about that, thanks for the suggestion, will certainly help to escape those monsters if i don't find anything seeing invisible.

Tips for invisible monsters. Note: sticky flame makes them visible now.

Thanks for the tips, i had no idea sticky flame could reveal them, but in the open it is always difficult to know exactly in which direction to aim.
The difficulty for me is to have them in a corridor to limit the possible directions to 2, without your life being knocked down a lot before you reach the place.

Argh, only 1 shop full of books in the whole thing i explored so far and that contains spells i already have in Sif given or found magic books.

I have 3 rings i have no idea what they do, i believe there is a pssibility one of them may be a see invisible ring, but no way i will try them all in front of one of the two unseen horror that await in Dungeon:15, considering how hard they hit, wasting turns moving and removing rings can be lethal.
And unfortunately a scroll of fog would hide my view too.

Of course, there is no identify scrolls lying around, so i will have to explore the harder branches i discovered so far (shoal/snake/slime) , there are no swamp at all, bad luck strikes again.

I hoped to discover something good in the last unexplored part of the forest in Lair:8, as i attacked and killed that Dire Elephant fortunately, but after opening the double door ...

nothing out of 2 decorative statues, searched for several turns, and found no hidden door, nothing.
Waste of time, damn.

So i got back to my library, beginning to consider leaving the adventurous life and opening a shop for future adventurers :D

Or maybe i will get to Orc again and see if i can kill Erolcha before she banish me in the Abyss, but that's a hell of a risk as there is no guarantee i will find an exit before dying if she indeed has the Banishment spell. As there is a small zone of Orc Mines i had not explored because she was in the middle of it.

I begin to really consider switching to Jiyva to get the benefit of both the summon neutral slimes that could help as they attack enemies on their way may be a very good meat shield as i really feel my kobold to be frail now that monsters encountered are much more powerfull.
And with everything i cleared there are enough item for the slimes to devour so i could get lots of faith.

Additionally it would apparently guarantee me to be entirely safe in the slime pit, so fetching the rune there would be easy.

But the cons is that Sif Muna wrath stay for 100.000 turns, and as i highly doubt my character will live that long, for the whole game i would get Sif bad effect each 2000 turns.

Argh, decision, decision.
hard to decide as whatever i'll do next i perfectly know the random number generator will laugh at me.

Robsoie, was there a second, tinier wall segment exposed between the trees? Because if there was, that has a secret door.

I believe there was a wall at some point between a few trees, i will go to check next time i play with my kobold, thanks for the hint, hopefully something good, and not a pack of Dire Elephants.

In other subject, corridor + unseen horror + sticky flame = good, i can see you now !

Vengeance was finally mine !
That's 2 unseen horrors dead, there is one left somewhere around.

On a very bad note, i looked into the 1st floor of Snake Pit and Shoals.

On Snake Pit, immediately surrounding the stair, 4 naga warriors and 1 unique, Louise (that knows Banishment)
Fortunately for me they were all sleeping, so i could climb back without being followed and utterly destroyed.

On Shoals, saw 4 death yaks sleeping at the edge of the screen when going down the stairs, bombarded them with 4 fireballs as they were placed so each explosion could hit them all, didn't killed any... Polyphemus appeared amongst them and some blue "thing" (i didn't had time to look carefully what it was) came too.
Had to retreat as the pack of death yak was dangerously close and Polyphemus was throwing me big rocks from beyond my spell range.

So that's basically 2 branches i will not go before being much higher level than my currently level 16 kobold, no way he can survive close combat with what awaits around the stairs.

oh and gave a look at the Elven hall 1st floor, killed immediately an elf that was close to the stair, but noticed that from there the only access to the rest of the floor is a doubled wall of flame that i am not really willing to move through.

Damn, my luck is always awesome.

I have not found Hive yet, i guess it may be in level 16 or in one of the small unexplored level 15 (due to an unseen horror) areas.
I hope next book Sif sent my way is a book of "kill everything in the whole floor" as i begin to worry a lot about the survivability of my kobold now lol

ediit : oh and Elrocha has finally been killed, she was sleeping, got hit by mephitic cloud, immediately confused her, then she was burned to death without being able to hit me with a single banishment.
At least a good new.

edit 2 : went back into the Lair:8 in the forest and indeed there was a hidden door leading to a room with lots of decoration statues and a wizard that was swiftly killed, nothing else and no other hidden door apparently.
I guess the random number do not want to help my character anymore.

Re: Lair 8 -- There's another hidden door in the crazy wizard room. Bring something that can damage fire resistant "numbers".

Not much in the way of loot, iirc, but there's a OoD portal that... probably won't help you much. Alright XP for killing the guardians, I guess?

If you've got access to summon elemental (Sif lets you forget spells, so you can dump it immediately afterwards) I think you'd be able to summon up fire elementals to eat those flame walls in elf. Might work, I'unno.

EDIT: Rather than double post...

Anyway, running an ultimate cheese build, i.e. SpEn of Nemelex, and I gotta' say... this is ridiculous. Ran into Azrael, who I'd never met before, and according to the knowledge bot had about four ways to two-shot me, even with a guardian spirit amulet running. Spammed legendary summon deck. Very Ugly Thing, Bone Dragon, Ice Fiend, and a few Yaks later, I've got 5 more points in the unique pile. Meanwhile, I've one-shotted at least two hydras, three cyclopses, a few hill giants... the list continues. Stabbing is hilariously overpowered. Spriggan stealth is over the top. Enchantment is incredibly murderous once it gets going.

It's looking entirely too much like Xom's going to get another dish of roof rabbit in the near future. This is even sillier than the offline MDFi I've got jumping into piles of orcs and death yaks and coming out alive. I realize that roguelikes have that whole "Not all race/class combos are created equal" thing going on, but this is a bit out there, heh.

For the fire immune things, as i am not sure my mystic blast at conjuration skill level 14 is enough, i'll wait a bit before retrying to find hidden doors in the crazy wizard room.

Following the summon elemental advices, i am now training a bit of Summoning with summon animals, so i will limit the hostile elemental summon, as i really don't need to add more threats than there is currently.
So far after killing 2 more unseen horrors (i thought there was only one left in Dungeon:15 seems i was very wrong) thanks to the sticky flame reveal and the proximity of a corridor, i got lots of XP to get into summoning, so actually i have reached level 3.

edit : finally found the stair to Hive, it was placed very low , Dungeon:15

I'll try to get to Summoning level 5 before forgetting a spell or two and going to summon elemental.

Iirc, it's your level in the appropriate elemental school that determines summons hostility, not your summoning level. Hopefully, you've got spellcasting up high enough to at least get poor or better on th'casting, so as to get rid of the fire squares without lightning up like a flashbulb. If you've got fire 10, the fire elementals'll always be friendly.

http://crawl.chaosforge.org/index.php?title=Summon_Elemental

As for mystic blast, if its casting is up to at least very good (Excellent would be better), you'll probably be fine. Fairly sure that's about when my wizard took the place out. Just make sure to lure the inhabitants off one by one, do not try to take them on as a group. Especially buzz out if the sun critter's giving backup to anything else. It's the most dangerous one, though th'smoke ones can smite, so watch out for that. The wingy ones are pretty standard melee critters, not much of an issue if you don't let 'em get close.

So far, my level 16 kobold has this in magic skills :

Level 13 Spellcasting
Level 14 Conjurations
Level 3 Summonings
Level 7 Translocations
Level 14 Fire Magic
Level 6 Earth Magic
Level 2 Evocations

and my current spells :
Your Spells              Type           Power          Success   Level
Flame Tongue          Fire/Conj      ######         Excellent   1
Mephitic Cloud        Pois/Air/Conj  #####.....     Excellent   3
Sticky Flame          Fire/Conj      #######..      Excellent   4
Fireball              Fire/Conj      #######...     Excellent   6
Stone Arrow           Erth/Conj      ######.        Excellent   3
Iskenderun's Mystic   Conj           #######..      Excellent   4
Passwall              Erth/Trmt      ####......     Great       3
Apportation           Tloc           #####.....     Excellent   1
Control Teleport      Ench/Tloc      ####......     Very Good   4
Teleport Self         Tloc           N/A            Very Good   5
Repel Missiles        Air/Ench       ###.......     Very Good   2
Summon Small Mammals  Summ           ####.          Excellent   1

So basically fire and earth elemental would always be friendly, but air and ice would be mostly hostile.
I will have to be very carefull to always target a rock wall so i never summon those air elementals.

Pretty much. Of course, if you pick up conjure flame, you can have fire elementals on demand. Might be useful, though earth elementals generally make better meatshields, I think, if you can get them into position. By th'by, I'd probably recommend you slate Blink as your next spell pickup -- it plus telecontrol is a pretty incredibly escape option. Much quicker for short-range escape or repositioning, and easier to get hungerless. I used it a lot more than tctrl+tele self. Keep an eye out for butterflies to replace spammels, of course.

And yeah, your mystic blast should be plenty for what's in that L:8 vault. Shouldn't be taking more than 2-4 shots to take the things down. Th'blast hits pretty hard, yeah.

I just hope Sif will give me some Blinking book, as in the dozen of books i have no learnable Blink and controlled Blink.
That's why i learned Passwall as an alternative, but can't do anything to save me in open space unfortunately.

Just wow, the RNG must HATE me this run. I'm only on level 5 of the dungeon and I've already run into:

Crazy Igvand (saw his hut, ignored it)
Sigmund (was finished exploring the level, so went down)
Menkaure (ran on site, skipped his section)
Pikel (killed, was backed into a corner)
Prince ribbit (killed, just barely)
Dowan (didn't notice me thankfully)
Duvessa (slowed me twice with a wand as I was running, killed her when she caught up)

4 Uniques on one level >_<

I want to go back to where Dowan was, but I fear his power now. There's a wand up there :(
