I've got a high elf wizard currently searching for the lair when I run into gastronok early on D:8 wearing his slimy anti-salt enchanted hat. He wouldn't cross over my summoned flames, so I trapped him in a hallway and cast mephatic cloud until it finally confused him and he ran back and forth through my glorious flames. Now I've got this hat that has 20MR +5 int and +10 mp, but it slows me down. Should I wear it all the time or just carry it around until I really need MR?

Quicksilver Dragon skeleton is a walking pile of free exp. Skeletons and zombies don't have any of the traits that makeregular monster dangerous. Specifically, dragon skeletons don't have breathe weapons, and Quicksilver Dragons do not hit hard in melee.

The major dangers in Elf are pretty much all in Elf:7 now. You might hit a unique or one of the conjurers might know Iron Bolt or one of the major threats will randomly generate, but the Elf:7 vault really kicks things into high gear with Annihilators who can shoot for crazy damage, Master Archers who are fast and very accurate with ok damage, and Demonologists who will quickly summon a pack of 2's and 3's who will do all kinds of nasty stuff to you. Oh, and banishment if you're lucky. Blademasters are fast and hit often, but they don't hit hard. They're threats, but not the biggest threat by any stretch of the imagination. If you can survive in the Abyss, then you should be able to take on Elf.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

I'm playing a spriggan enchanter, following Okawaru. He just gifted me with:
E - the +7,+0 quick blade "Newtslayer" (weapon) {god gift, stab, EV+3 SInv Stlth+}

Hell yeah!

Just finished clearing the Lair, now looking for the Hive.

Kind of redundant if you ask me. It makes you stealthier, see invisibler, dodgier, and attack faster. But you already have all of those things.

I would like to join a team! I have one offline victory. My best online game got me to experience level 19, and I had grabbed one rune. I was working on the Vaults when I got sent to the Abyss, which sucks.

My CAO username is FreeHugs. I'll be in whatever team is appropriate! If the team list at the top of the thread is up-to-date, that means I'm joining the Immigrants?
Indeed you are! Welcome to the Immigrants!

And I haven't yet said it in this thread, but welcome HideousBeing, the new captain of the Immigrants!

On the topic of Elven Halls: I simply cleared them with mephitic cloud and sticky flame (and the occasional demon). All of the elves seemed to be pretty easily confusable, which makes them unable to use any of their nasty abilities. When a summoner or annihilator noticed me before I managed to shoot a cloud, I ran away to kill some other poor elf. I did have magic resistance and an amulet of warding though.

LASD & Toady, thank you for the front page mentioning of the tourney. Awesome! :) Good work Blyxx and LASD on the wins.

Hehe, thanks. Just though that it'd be fun for people to see how we fare through the month and it could never hurt to introduce more people to Crawl. Also, the Bay12 presence in the Tournament likely introduces at least some new people to DF. It's cool how Toady does these kind of community announcements (like with the TF2 server).

You filthy, dirt-bearded buggers. I've read the entire thread, raked over the wiki, and have now spent several hours playing the game. Yes, I had it downloaded before, no I didn't know you could play online.

You've got me addicted. I hope you're all satisfied.

I'll sign on with the leftovers team, I'm VonKrieger, by the by.

The joy of roguelikes :P

Snap question, folks. I've apparently found the centaur filled wizlab. I have no repel/deflect missiles. Run or fight it out? (Leaning toward run.)

EDIT: Nevermind. Peeked in a bit to see what'd pop out, almost died but made it back out. Thank you, swiftness, thank you.

You can't, by any chance, play the tile version online, can you?

Check earlier in this thread. Apparently the net tiles thing works with 7.*, just a little buggily. Links and such should be... well, maybe in the first ten pages? I forget already, heh.

I've been playing the NetTile version online. Oddities have been, at least in the lower level areas, few and far between. 99% of things have proper tiles, and though the remaining 1% are a bit odd (alters keep shifting sprites, smoke over water does weird things, as do things moving in the sewers), you can tell what's going on and what things are supposed to be.

Specced yeh for a bit, Von Krieger; are you not able to move diagonally? Dunno 'bout net tile, but you've gotta' muck around a bit in putty to get that to function. Anyway, I'd seriously suggest yeh figure out how, heh, or your chances of survival probably half, it not worse. Corners are a big thing, yeah, and you eat the same amount of time going diagonal as you do straight.

EDIT: Re: Ijyb + hobgoblin fight -- always try to fight in corridor when outnumbered. Fighting in the open should be a desperation thing, 99% of the time.

EDIT2: Anyone know if the stasis amulet blocks red wasp paralysis? Almost got murdered by one of those bloody things just now...
