if it's that complicated to register, i don't want in.

What's so complicated about it?  ???

Register on CAO, add
# TEAMCAPTAIN humaan
to the top of your options file and you're done.

Registering is pretty simple:

1) Connect to CAO (just type in 'joshua' as the login and password).
2) Register an account (name, password and e-mail).

If you Telnet instead of SSH, you won't have to waste time with that Joshua nonsense.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Using Net Tiles to create the account and log in is even less complicated, as Putty is already seamlessly integrated in it, so you don't have to setup any joshua thing.
In the Net Tile main menu, click on "Play online", then you click on the CAO button, it will connect automatically, then there you follow the menu to create your own account/password, and follow the instruction of previous posts.

No more complicated than that.

If you set Putty up correctly, you don't even have to bother with that joshua nonsense either.  My set up inputs it in automatically.

Looks like Team Ogre is copying off of us. They created a new crawl channel (##gooncrawl) if you feel like having friendly pre-tournament banter.  ;)

Their teams:
Goons with Runes - Soapers
Raiders of the Lost Zig - Miners
AwfulOgre - Champions

They're creating a Blacksmiths-type team as well.

Psst, none of the soapers have runes. At least that I know of.

Neither do the Goons with Runes.  :P Most of them haven't reached the 5th floor of the dungeon.

Edit:

Their new team is Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. It looks like there will be two sites with 5 teams each competing in the tournament.

That's great to see more and more people getting into this.
This year the tournament got more popular than in 2009 or 2008, currently +/- 50 teams are present

Start is getting close, I'm scared to start a new game (just in case it turns out to be a long one).  I'm going to start off with a SpEn of Nemelex and try to win ASAP.  Anybody else have plans?

I'm practicing offline. But Sprint is also excellent training if you want quick games online.

Figure I'll ask again; does anyone know how to have my adventurer appear a just an @ symbol? No background, no underline or cursor line, just the symbol?

I'm going to do some losing characters first, to appease Xom, and then start up a spriggan assassin/stalker/enchanter and try to sneak and stab my way to a rune. When did the tournament start, again? Midnigth, but which time zone? Eh, whatever, I'll look it up.

It is indeed soon. Now let's try to get the rest of the team people to join through CAO. Though Sign-ups are still open, there's plenty of room on Immigrants and if the missing teamsters don't turn up, on the official teams too. We know Vactor is coming and for Leafsnail:
Well... I'll be away for a long time now on various holidays.
Hmm, I wonder how long is a long time.

Anyway. It's the time for the last warm-ups everyone, try some crazy combinations that aren't supposed to have a long life, but stretch it as far as you can. Learning to cope with difficult situations and surviving against the odds will be crucial in the tournament. Dig your feet in the ground to a comfortable starting position and get ready to run for the runes right as the starting pistol goes off at midnight on August 1st  (or the following morning depending on your timezone).

My personal plan will be playing a lot of random characters and occasionally trying out a DDNe, MDFi or some similar "good" combination when I feel I'm not making progress.

This will be great.

My plan for the tournament:

1) 15-rune victory
2) Beat Sprint with a dozen unwon combos
3) Win 4-5 regular games
4) Destroy the Orb
