Seriously? I have been meticulously saving my acquirement scrolls for late game jewellery requests. Doesn't it at least weight it toward jewellery you haven't ID'd?

I can't remember having gotten duplicate jewellery from a scroll of acquirement.

No, jewelry acquirement giving randarts is not affected by how many kinds are ID'd. It's a flat 28.5% chance for any ring or amulet being a randart except for hunger and innacurracy which have a 92% chance of being randarts.

Are you sure of this ?
the wiki says  :

You receive a random, unknown piece of jewellery (i.e. one you haven't yet identified) or sometimes a randart. The chance of a randart is increased with every piece of jewellery you've already identified.

Usually the wiki does not give precise informations, but in this case the wiki is then plain wrong.

Yeah, I ran several hundred tests at one point with wizard mode and a macro. The percentage went up as I ID'ed things, but didn't seem to ever get higher then maybe 35%.

Hmm, you worship Trog, so books are out. The "Other" category has some interesting things in it, but it's kind of hit or miss. There used to be one you could get rods from, but not sure if its been changed.

I used blind an unknown scroll on a "naked" (non-branded) +3,+4 dagger and apparently it must have been a Vorpal scroll, as it gave my dagger a brand , making it a dagger of "stabbing".
Looking into the knowledge bot

Increases damage by 12.5% on average and increases variability (but reduces it for launchers)
What "variability" mean in this case ?

I think i have a dagger of distortion too in my stockpile (or if i'm unlucky a dagger of chaos), as i killed Psyche that usually carry it but as i am out of identify scroll, i can't make sure for now (and wielding it now is not a really great idea).

Currently i am using a 0,+2 dagger of venom, but as i guess the more i will dive in dungeon, the more the monsters will be immune to it, what is the best choice : the +3,+4 dagger of stabbing, or the possible dagger of distortion (i have several enchant weapon scrolls in my stockpile so i could increase with some luck precision/damage) ?

I probably wouldn't suggest the dagger of distortion; it's really, really risky to unwield it (Unless your character can reliable get out of the abyss and has enough HP to survive the other miscast effects.).

Distortion does alright damage, and has a chance to 'insta-kill' (well, banish to the abyss, which is basically th'same thing, except that you don't get XP for it.), but later in the game a stabber (if that's what you are) will want to switch over to some other short blade, probably either a sabre or quick blade; the raw bonus damage from stabbing (which daggers double) caps off at some point or another, after which you probably want whatever has the higher base damage. There's a number of reasons to want to be able to easily switch out weapons, anyway -- use ID, rods/staves, sublimation of blood, cards, etc, etc.

I'd probably say use the venom dagger on things you can kite with it, and the stabbing one on everything else... and keep an eye out for Nikola, who has a guaranteed sabre of electrocution (My SpEn's currently using it as his primary weapon, despite also having a quickblade of freezing.), providing you can kill him. Keep an eye out for the lesser elemental and draining/pain brands, in the mean time. Protection's also very nice. But distortion, chaos, and vampiricism for anything-not-a-deep-dwarf is generally a raw deal. Speed's nice for everything not-a-shortblade. S'not a bad idea to keep a holy wrath weapon around, just in case.

Hmm, i guess i'll keep the sabre of distortion i just found on some unique i killed few minutes ago for the very unlikely case i want to try to banish myself to the Abyss and get killed there :D

And on a good new, killed my 40th ghost, the confuse spell is really usefull when you have a high stabbing skill as the tier 2 damage bonus is very good (though not as great as the Stabbing tier 1 damage bonus on a sleeping monster).

Can now launch the shadow creature spell without any spell hunger, that's very good.

I have to disagree on the Chaos brand. I've gotten very good use out of Chaos branded weapons. The problem is they are, well, very chaotic. Poly, Berserk, and Haste are annoying when they trigger, but the rest are very nice. I wouldn't say its an endgame weapon, but definitely better then a Distortion dagger up to midgame. Especially if your a spriggan with Haste, you should be able to outrun everything, no matter what it rolls out.

New cause of death, this time it is not hubris, it is not silly bad luck, but just being bored of repeating the same things over and over that got my character killed because i couldn't care anymore to get away from a dangerous situation.

Will need to take a break for a few days out of Crawl to avoid the repetitive feeling to kill another otherwise very good character.

Since I worship Trog and can't normally use spells, I used one of the scrolls to try for a rod (the wiki claims a 75% chance if your evoke skill is the highest) and got a Rod of Demonology. I think I might try to get another one, since being able to cast magic while also being with Trog is pretty cool. And, with Trog constantly dumping new weapons on me, I can probably expect to get a weapon that has the same effects as most amulets/rings. Although a randart does sound appealing...

Rod of demonology is the one with a bunch of summons of varying power and Abjuration, right? I can see that being useful to someone who can't cast spells.

My latest character, a spriggan wanderer, ended when I tried to cut down the fungi in front of Crazy Yiuf's lair by holding down the direction key while a ghost snuck up behind me and tore me to pieces before I noticed. I had started with the young poisoner's handbook, and found the book of dreams, so I had a pretty decent spell portfolio, too! Note to self: NEVER HOLD A KEY DOWN EVER.

Well I seem to have found my Internets again. Except for a few post on this forum on other threads my internet has been...     nonexistent. But all is well and later tonight I will get back into the game. Sorry Miners for the absence.

If you got a rod of demonology, you pretty much just got the only major spell that is essential for late game survival that you don't have duplicated in some way. Remember, it only sends HOSTILE summons away, meaning your Brothers in Arms are safe. Better would probably have been Warding, but that is still very nice.
