Well I finally got a win. :) http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/tinymouse/morgue-tinymouse-20100818-070505.txt

This is the first all-rune sprint victory and the current high score. Doesn't count for much but bragging rights. :)

Nice one Demos! I won two in a row last year but at the rate I'm going there won't be enough time to do that again this year. :)

Congratulations for the wins Feelgood and Tinymouse !

At some point of my Chaos Knight of Makhleb current game i reached a big room in which the entry to Orc Mines was located.
In this big room was several Orc Wizards, a few Orcs, at least 1 Orc Priest and at least 2 Orc Warriors.
And coming from a side the unique Harold, all awake and noticing me.
Well, i doubted i could take them all out, i summoned 2 lesser demons and 1 greater demon by using Makhleb abilities.

Then ran away to a nearby corridor to catch every Orc that would have survived the onslaught.
But i didn't need to, as the demons did a great job, especially the Green Death.

After saving a log before saving my current game, i gave a look at the kill list to see how good my demons have done so far, and i noticed in this log that in this Orc infested room, there was not only the unique Harold, but there was Sonja too that i never saw but was killed by the demons in the process.

Shoals 5 had a few more surprises, nearly died again..

This shot is a couple of turns after my teleport resolved - I had been in the middle of the expanse of water to the south, almost surrounded by elementals, and being stabbed by two impalers using tridents of reaching. My mistake had been to try to take on Ilsuiw and a force of merfolk when my only retreat route lay across shallow water - additionally I had only summoned one Trog Brother before going berserk, and it was a crappy ogre at that. Ilsuiw turned out to be too tough to kill before my berserk ran out - luckily I didn't pass out this time. Furthermore, standing in shallow water when invisible was not too smart (also forgot that using the evoke levitation on my weapon would have solved that - whoops).
In summary, I did everything wrong and still somehow managed to live.

Hey, congrats tinymouse on the first Bay12 Sprint win and Demos for the sweet streak! And Baruk for an unlikely escape.

I seem to be having luck with the combo characters. My Naga Monk died at 40 000 points and just now I had a Vampire Gladiator that just refused to die until I pulled out all the stops. I just rushed through blindly the early game, found the Temple, chose Xom for the hell of it, found a dagger of distortion and started flailing everything with it, then started to ascend stairs as fast possible with the aim to reach Slime and a Jiyva altar. I actually did reach Slime, though I died shortly after with 5000 points. Melee Vampires that keep their blood levels way up are actually scarily effective, I even took two ghosts down on the way.

Two examples how evil the coding of Crawl is ;) :

I have been looking for the altar of Jiyva in most of my games recently, wanting for a change to follow it. The altar was nowhere to be seen from D:1 to D:16 each time, mostly only to be found inside of creepy Slime Pits.
And guess what my Chaos Knight of Mekhleb found in Lair ?
Yes, that Jiyva altar... switching to it from Mekhleb would do my character no good.

other situation : few minutes ago i cleaned Orc Mines. When i entered Orc:1 or Orc:2 i had a message warning me of the presence of the Labyrinth entrance.
I was happy as my Mummy could take this without a problem, i remembered that near the minotaur and the exit of it there always was some nice items.

But nowhere on the floor it was found, remembering that sometime Orc Mines can have a very convulated design, i explored further floors to find a stair up that could lead me into the hidden section where the labyrinth entrance was.
There was a lot of angry orcs warriors, ogres and sorcerers in the way so i had to clean those floors wasting time.
Finally after a few wrong ways, i found the correct stairs orders , basically i had to go down 2 floors under the labyrinth entrance to get into closed hidden parts of Orc Mines and finally i arrived near the labyrinth entrance.

And guess what... time was over, i hate those timed things.

Out of those 2 annoying situations, my mummy has been doing good so far.

Bad day for the B12Champs in Pandemonium,  2 characters lost in short order there.

My DDPr was kinda running out of wiggle room, 8 mp left at the end.  At least I got Lom Lobon, and the magic rune out of it though.  I didn't realize until much later that I still had my rMut amulet on instead of my WARD amulet, I was so used to never taking off the WARD that i forgot to put it back on when i pulled out of slime pits.

Got 7 runes at least, and got a bit further than my DDHe from last year.  Funny that it started just as an attempt to steal a race combo high score from Eli.

Indeed... I did a similar thing, had a brooch of shielding for normal wear but put on stasis while dealing with an enemy that paralyzed me. Then forgot to switch back and did not carefully read the messages in a battle with minor pan lord. So what I thought were haste/blink miscast were in fact stasis preventing those effects. Really Stupid Death. Lesson learned - slow down and check the equipped items for every significant encounter.

I think part of the problem was leaving this game idle for a couple of days while working on Sprint. Then when I went back to it, was no longer in the rhythm of using the character. Spell letters were different, causing more mistakes. Etc. A real waste of an L27 character and just missed getting the Free Will banner.

The hell with the monsters that do not play by the same rules as me, that's really annoying.

Found Snorg
Ok, monster spells are always more powerfull and last more than the player version for some insane reason.
That i got sadly used to it.

But in the case of Snorg what i really disliked is that once Snorg went out of Berserk after a while but unlike you it is not affected by Slow, and unlike you he can relaunch Berserk immediately.

Snorg killed several minor demons, their summons and even 2 greater demons because of this immediate relaunch of Berserk, and despite i paralysed him 2 times he got out of each paralysis after only 1 turn so i could not even run away.

And to add more of annoying random number fun, as i was out of the faith rank that allow me to call for more greater demons, i used a few "summon shadow" to try to get some meat shield between me and him and despite it was Dungeon:14 summoned a few snakes, a bat, 2 kobolds and a rat.

Great, let's say that berserked Snorg killed them all in a turn or two due to his speed and damages, and laughed at my 2 blinking scroll usage as despite i teleported a screen away each time, the next turn he was always there in contact, talk about insane speed.

There are times in which the Crawl code seems to really wants to kill your so far very interesting and good character, and it always manage to do it.

edit : found again the strange hellish big room with an island surrounded by lava and a lots of demon on it.
This time helped by a few greater demons and minor demons, i cleaned that room, and it was a Hell portal in the center.
A few nice weapons , though only magical, not artifact, could be found on the ground.

(the walls around lava are not walls, that's just a bug of NetTiles, these are smokes and clouds)

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.
