Noooo!!!

I lost my HaTm who had the following mutations:

                    Innate Abilities, Weirdness & Mutations

You are small and have problems with some larger weapons.
You have a slow metabolism.
You have very sharp teeth.
Your digestive system is specialised to digest meat.
Your muscles are flexible, but weak (Str -1, Dex +1).
Your muscles are strong (Str +1).
You can control translocations.

I foolishly donned some clunky fire resist gear to take down Azrael, and then got a little lax on keeping my hp up, dying to a double hit... there's no excuse, i had control teleport and a tele ring on...........

Re: Lair 8 -- There's another hidden door in the crazy wizard room. Bring something that can damage fire resistant "numbers".

Not much in the way of loot, iirc, but there's a OoD portal that... probably won't help you much. Alright XP for killing the guardians, I guess?

If you've got access to summon elemental (Sif lets you forget spells, so you can dump it immediately afterwards) I think you'd be able to summon up fire elementals to eat those flame walls in elf. Might work, I'unno.

EDIT: Rather than double post...

Anyway, running an ultimate cheese build, i.e. SpEn of Nemelex, and I gotta' say... this is ridiculous. Ran into Azrael, who I'd never met before, and according to the knowledge bot had about four ways to two-shot me, even with a guardian spirit amulet running. Spammed legendary summon deck. Very Ugly Thing, Bone Dragon, Ice Fiend, and a few Yaks later, I've got 5 more points in the unique pile. Meanwhile, I've one-shotted at least two hydras, three cyclopses, a few hill giants... the list continues. Stabbing is hilariously overpowered. Spriggan stealth is over the top. Enchantment is incredibly murderous once it gets going.

It's looking entirely too much like Xom's going to get another dish of roof rabbit in the near future. This is even sillier than the offline MDFi I've got jumping into piles of orcs and death yaks and coming out alive. I realize that roguelikes have that whole "Not all race/class combos are created equal" thing going on, but this is a bit out there, heh.

Ooh...wait a bit longer and you will start one shotting giants and dragons and pretty much everyone :P

Cleaned Dungeon:16 and found the entrance to Vault, just peeked an eye on Vault:1 and the "blinking centaur" Nessos was near the stair, i threw him a fireball that took 1/5 of his health, while he shot an arrow that took half of my life.
Damn, should have launched mephitic cloud before, i always forget that spell.

OK, so after Shoals and Snake Pit, i cross Vault from my branch list for now.
That does not really leave me much choices but the near-stair areas of those 3 branches are just way too dangerous, uniques and strong monsters near the stairs are a big no no for my low healthed kobold.

Found another pesky unseen horror in the open, it allowed me to make sure 2 of my unidentified rings were not allowing to see invisible.
Only thanks to a controlled teleportation near a corridor and then sticky flame once possible directions were reduced to 2 that allowed me to see the thing and kill it.

While cleaning the floor, Sif Muna awarded me with a book that finally got Blink in it, it's been a long time i hoped to learn that spell.
Unfortunately, no controlled blink spell in there.
Dungeon:16 was really hot, a few centaur, a few centaur warriors, several skeleton warriors and 2 hydras.
Took me a few hit&run attempt to get rid of those dangerous foes for my low health.

Controlled teleportation is definitively a life savior.

I hope to find very soon a few identify scrolls, it's been a long time i have not seen any.
I have a few scrolls i can't know what they do, several potions i have no idea about, and some rings and wands that does not seem to shoot something.

You should be able to hit \ to see what things you've already ID'd. Compare that list to the 'list of <Insert>*' pages to see what's missing. After that, it's pretty easy to narrow things down and test them appropriately. Remember you can target yourself with things as well, though it's recommended you go to an easier area of the dungeon to do that. Trucking back up to D:1 or something is worth it if you've got a large number of unID'd objects. Calling up a few summons while you test can be helpful... providing you don't trigger a hostility inducing effect (Torment, immolation, holy word, etc.). I'd personally say it's worth it to use ID everything, once you've got the resources (HP, Healing Potions, maybe some resistances) to survive doing so. You might lose a cure mutation potion or something, but that's generally the worst of it. Alternately, a general rule of thumb is to only use ID items you have two of, so you can inscribe it appropriately if it doesn't work (e.g. point an item-needing scroll at a wand, it does nothing, it's probably curse or enchant armor, etc.).

Robsoie, do you have Repel Missiles yet? That will help a lot with the centaurs.

Good ideas thanks for the links and the key shortcut to check ID-ed kind of items, i ID-ed the wands i couldn't on a rat, some very nice wands i have there.
For the scrolls, they are potentially some very good ones as i ID-ed a lot of bad in the dungeon, i don't want to waste them for nothing.

For the potions that's the same, i ID-ed all the bad ones already, so the unknown i have may be good so i'll prefer to wait for an ID scroll to not waste them.

Thanks for the reminder about Repel Missile, Taxus, i completely forgot i had learned this spell already.

How much time one have to wait for a monster to go back to sleep ?
I would want to avoid revisiting one of those places if the monsters are always in alerted state.

[musing]Yeah, he does. Any idea if repel missile's effectiveness is improved with higher power, or is it just duration? Honestly, it didn't seem to help terribly much when I my wizard had it, especially as I started running into yaktaurs and crap. Deflect missiles makes a bigger difference, though, I guess.

Or I could just check the bloody wiki for further info...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Seems it's just duration. Deflect missiles has a guaranteed 1/3rd reduction to incoming missile accuracy, and can reduce it to anything from 2/3rd to 0. Repel missiles can, at most, half the incoming attack's accuracy... and may do nothing at all. Repel really needs already present defensive measures (Decent EV/SH) to be truly useful, apparently.[/musing]

Re: Going back to sleep -- honestly, I don't think they do. They'll go back to wandering if you get far enough away from them, or spend a long enough period out of their LoS, but if they go back to sleep I haven't noticed it. It'd be a bloody long time, and I've no idea how monster movement is handled on level's you're not on. I had some critters on Elf:1 that stayed in pretty much the same place (and alert status) for several hundred (possibly a few thousand) turns, but that may be something specific to the branch (There are a few vault-type stuff that are like that, iirc.). I do find they shift around a bit if I spend a few search cycles on the level above or below, but it's generally not terribly much.

I've seen creatures go back to sleep. I wasn't actively looking out for it - I had cleared all but the bottom level of Vaults and Elf before I went back, so it might be an extremely long time for all I know.

Well, i hope they go back to sleep without waiting an insane amount of time, or that at least they are moved in another random location of the dungeon after a while, or i think Snake Pit and Shoals entrances are definitively death traps for my character, as the monsters are strong and surrounding the stairs currently down there.

Vault the only real threat in the entrance is Nessos there was a troll i think too, but i should be able to take him down.
If i can get repel missile effectively working (as there is always a chance according to the wiki entry Frumble quoted that it will change 0 % of the enemy hit chance) and hopefully mephitic clouds really confuse him, i am confident he can be beaten by my kobold as wiki tells me he does not have specific resistances.
I wish i had controlled Blink, i hope Sify will send me another book this way soon.

Anyways, my little kobold just reached level 17, the earth summons are indeed very usefull and easy enough to get so i can build a strong meat shield in no time, that really help as those enemies begin to be powerfull enough so i can't count on sticky flame to do the job quick enough.

I spent some time but transfered my whole book collections and the truckload of jelly+honeycomb i pillaged from Hive into the Temple, as i noticed sometime a monster being spawned around in my previous "home" at Dungeon:13, and the last thing i want is one of them taking my stuff and diving into some deep water and dying there with my stuff out of reach.

The ground was not clean enough, temple is more shiny and polished ;)

more seriously, putting my items in Hive isn't going to lead into the problem i faced, i mean some monsters spawning form time to time when i go back in there ?

I've been using Hive:1 as my stash for the duration of my current game and I've never seen anything other than the occasional bee spawn there. Hive:2 would likely render it a non-issue the same way that Lair:2 does.

Alright RNG, what are you doing now? I already killed 3-4, and they just keep coming:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Edit: There were so many I didn't bother counting. That was about 12 big kobolds, and at least 20 kobolds. I think I just cut through an army...

Kobold minivaults are quite common and in fact are worth a ton of Exp. All the big kobolds are probably enough to take you from level 9 to 10 on their own. The actual room they spawn in is empty, though, so if you need to ditch the level, feel free.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Good to know, cleaned them out no problem.

My current problem is thus:

What the heck is that? Neither the wiki nor google seem to know. Any idea?
