The longer you are there the more chance of evil coming to get you. Mostly just because the developers did not like mummy character staying there FOREVER and leveling on simple things.

Yeah... wish they'd just mitigated XP gain per kill after a certain point instead. I've spent enough time with non-mummy characters to trigger the start of the OOD increase just trying to clear an entrance to the level below :(

Supposedly, though, if you manage to survive the OOD critters, they just stop genning after a certain point, so there's a light at the end of the tunnel... sorta.

As i was browsing a bit the wiki to see how to prepare a further spell list for my current level 10 draconian wizard to survive some monsters in branches, i looked up at which ones could see invisible.
And read about the Invisibility spell again.

It seems this spell is misnamed and is not working at all the way i thought. Unlike for the monster spell of the same name, Invisibility (spell/ring/wand..) does not make you invisible to any monster in fact
All this spell does is making a slight decrease to a monster chance to hit your character, if this monster does not have the see invisible tag).

Quote
Invisibility can be granted by the spell of the same name, or by various magic items.

It causes monsters without ability to see the player to have reduced chance to hit. Ranged attacks will be directed generally in player's direction, but usually not in the player's square (greatly reduces chance to be hit by a such attack). The spell will not, however, help the player to escape the attention of the monsters, as they can always see the player.

How disapointing.

Yet another moment of fridge logic of dunegon crawl's, an invisibility spells that doesn't make you invisible.

That along with undead that need to breath and puny demigods could be improved upon.

If you go invisible, as proven by my recent caster (Crazy Yuif hits you with a quarterstaff! You fade out of sight) they will start wandering around if you are invisible, heading in your general direction.  I think they can either smell you or hear your footsteps.  Maybe based on stealth skill.

Some monsters require LoS to use their abilities. Specifically, smiting and pain. It also greatly reduces the chance you'll get shot at. Oddly, it's not so good for running away. Silly Crawl.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

If a few days before there is a spot left on Immigrants, my bro might want to play, if whoever the captain is is okay with some random person being on the team :P

He kinda sucks though..

Not so sure it matters lol. I've played hundreds of games of crawl and I still have trouble getting to branches past lair. No reason he can't be on SOME team.

I'm stopping for the day: No death-gest, because the wizard still lives, somehow.

But I need advice. I'm having a heck of a time not starving to death, and not being able to dip into the heavier, hungrier artillery is very annoying. I think I've finally found the entrance to the hive (D:15, which also has some naga unique, A-somethingorother, wandering around it), but I have no poison resistance. I have no anything resistance, except for a point of MR via robe which doesn't really count. And corrosion, I guess, which helps right now less than the MR counts.

This is the character:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I also have access to these books
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
but they're a fair distance away. Only have one level worth of memorization open, anyway.

Is the cloud enough to risk raiding the hive for food? What's the better option? Anything I'm doing horrifically wrong?

Hey, how do I change numpad 5 so that it only waits one turn in CAO? The default is to do the whole search thing and I'm not liking it at all.

Could try macroing it to .

Or changing the key-somethin'-or-other, though I dun really remember/bothered to find out how to do that.

Amusingly, I had the opposite problem, heh. Shift-num5 wouldn't long rest.

Also, is the putty stuff set up right? Keyboard set to nethack, et al?

I've been playing for two years now and I can consistently get to the lair, and in one game, almost a rune. It's really about about pace. Litteraly taking more than a second - like chess - each turn in the later game is crucial for success.

I'm using ssh through cygwin if it matters. "." waits one turn but num5 wants to rest forever  :-\

I just noticed that all the regular number keys do the same thing as the numpad ones. I guess its not differentiating between the regular numbers and numpad. ssh thing?

The Tomb lies quiet.  No rustle of wind from the free lands above reach this dank place.  It seems it must have lain untouched for millenia.  Wait, what's this?  Some small ragged creature has wriggled up from the musty stairs!  Perhaps a straying kobold that wandered from the twisting passages of the dungeon?  Or more likely the ambling corpse of said kobold, considering what lurks within the Tomb.  Yes, another victim claimed by the embalmed...wait, what's this?  The creature holds a shaking hand up;  something glitters in its palm.

@{

That's no kobold!  It's a horribly traumatized halfling!  The Golden Rune of Zot is found! [/end fanfic]

So is the Abyssmal Rune.  Thanks Zot trap.   ::)

Tomb is seriously really hard.  It didn't help that my sleep-deprived self forgot that I could use apportation to grab my sling bullets when I got low instead of walking into unexplored territory and waking up 5 angry embalmed Egyptian priests/pharoahs/guards at a time.  At least Okawaru didn't attack during any of the tight spots.

My current Draconian (that evolved unfortunately into the Grey version, so no magic path bonus) Wizard is really doing great so far, but he is doing great thanks to Fedhas (he would have died many many times already if it was not for wandering mushrooms and oklobs help) , basically the same good run as i had with a Kobold Reaver using Fedhas

Can't believe i ignored Fedhas for so long, he is really an usefull one.

While the "Oklob killing turrets" need plants (but 2 later powers of Fedhas can spawn plants, Growth and the late Rain), the very strong and helpfull Wandering Mushroom (that can follow you through stairs) just need you to use a corpse, use the default Fedhas power to grow a murshoom and once you have been gifted with Fedhas Evolution power (just use the default power on most corpse you don't need to eat to grow fungus and you'll get it soon), you're going to have really good and reliable allies with those wandering mushroom.

Currently in Lair, my plan is to explore it (found the Shoal entry) to get a bit of experience before going into Hive (Lair and Hive were on the same dungeon floor) for food stock as earlier i noticed the wasp guarding the Hive entry were a bit hard for me. Killed them all thanks to 4 wandering mushroom and 2 oklob plants supported by my pitifull magic dart and throw frost, as i did not found yet a frankly good damaging spell, but mephitic cloud helped to keep them under oklob fire without going to me)
I was lucky to find an entry to a shop baazar at some point earlier and bought a lot of fruits in there, so creating Oklobs should not be a problem if i need their acid fire support, at least i hope.

Then once Hive will be cleaned, i will try to do Orc Mines, as early in the dungeon i found the entry, was not yet having any wandering mushroom with me and noticed there were 2 Orc Warriors on the 1st floor of it.

And only then i will begin to think about trying a rune.
