I think this is a fixed artifact, actually. I bet just having it with me will give a noticeable boost to my final score when I finally die or win (yeah, right).

That would be absolutely delightful to my still haven't found any freaking resistances wizard, despite it likely tanking my casting chances. Nice find!

Gnolls are much more dangerous than Sigmund. The only advantage Sigmund has is invisibility and a wand occasionally. Gnolls however are tough and dangerous for most low levels. The most dangerous unique I have seen so far is Pikel. Mainly because of the slaves. If you have mephitic cloud though, it makes them trivial.

If you can clear Elf and you have rPois, Snake shouldn't be too difficult. And if you have at least rF+, rC+, and hopefully rN+++, Vaults:8 should be doable and it's a cinch if you have rF+++ and rN+++. Just take it really slowly and do NOT randomly teleport
Okay, I'll take another shot at the lowest Snake floor. And then probably Vaults 1-7 and a few more dungeon levels. Hive's also a breeze with poison resistance, right? No Shoals, I already did Swamp and Slime sort of creeps me out.

Slime requires specialized equipment (artifacts, +5 equipment, rMut, and rCorr or conservation), so if you have that stuff, feel free to try Slime. Note that each exposed equipment slot increases your damage taken and you may want to carry spare equipment and scrolls of enchant armor in case your stuff gets corroded anyways or you get banished by a Zot trap.

I usually do Hive right after Lair if I have rPois. Yeah, go clear it out. Your plan is otherwise great, though.

go for it, you only live once and as long as there is not anything better to be had in the bazaar why not spend cash on some bling?
It is.......

The +5 armour of the Dragon King {MR}. I am now incredibly resistant to hostile enchantments. And extremely unstealthy, despite my lithe spriggan build and 14 stealth skill. And my damage avoiding scores went from 14/48/16 to 27/12/16. Yeah, I could use some actual armour skill.

Still, could have been worse. Could have been lot worse. I think this is a fixed artifact, actually. I bet just having it with me will give a noticeable boost to my final score when I finally die or win (yeah, right).

48 EV is a lot better than 27 AC, I think you're better off without the GDA... unless you need the resistances.

Sigmund is dangerous if he makes himself invisible. He's almost gotten to the point where people prepare for him enough that he no longer gets many kills, but he'll always have a reputation as the most common ganker.

Of course, gnolls can be generated on D:1... so they're even gankier.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Huh, this one doesn't seem to feature any resistances beyond magic. Maybe it was nerfed recently? Armour is still completely identified when worn, right?

If it weren't for mephetic cloud, about 75% of the uniques I've killed would have slaughtered me. Hopefully I'll find one of the higher tier confusion effects (Well, I've got the book for mass confusion, but I need an upgraded cold spell first.) before I start running into poison resistant casters. Pikel's not that bad compared to stuff that'll spew flaming(/freezing/electrifying/banishing/etc.) death at you if they're not confused...

Agreed with the gnolls, though, especially when they come in packs. They tend to kill me more than non-classed orcs. It's probably because they like to tote two-handed weapons, which can hit like a bloody brick. The occasional reaching polearm just makes things worse :P

bah regular orcs are easy, I take them with spammals all the time. Gnolls are a different story though, they take dogs or imps to kill in any reasonable time frame.

I am being repeatedly slaughtered!
Don't worry too much about this, personnally +/- 9 out of 10 of my characters are slaughtered before reaching Temple, either bad luck, stupid mistake, etc....

But once a character reach Temple, usually it can often live on for much longer after that.

I don't think it's just a reputation, as if we check the scoreboard about the amount of character killed by monsters in this tournament 2010
http://crawl.akrasiac.org/tourney10/killers.html
The most lethal unique in this board is ... Sigmund with 94 characters killed.

But according to that chart the most lethal enemy is ... the Hobgoblin that killed so far 646 characters.
Gnolls are not that far with 273 characters killed so far.

Sigmund is still quite a threat to people in general. the reason we seem so much better against him is that here we respect him and pass the word around that he is a killer. For goodness sakes our regular crawl thread is named "Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup. Or: THAT DAMN SIGMUND." of course we know about him!

Going through my tourney morgues, i forgot to mention an out of depth monster that killed one of my characters

Mangled by an unseen horror (11 damage)
... on Level 1 of the Dungeon.
ouch, Sigmund was rather laughable in comparison to that :D

I found this rather funny too :

As I understand it after some amount of testing EV performed better than AC for damage mitigation, and dosen't carry the combat/magical penalties that you get from heavy armor.

The King Dragon Armour's base type is GDA, which provides rC+, rF+, and rPois naturally.

Don't forget that near the bottom of the kill list is "Sigmund, the wolf". Remember, polymorphed monsters can still cast spells!

Note though that armor has been somewhat un-nerfed in 0.7 compared to 0.6, which is when the testing that I believe you are referring to took place.

@Robsoie: "You could see an unseen horror" had me rolling!  How the heck did that thing get onto level 1?

edit:  btw, I officially stamp this thread with the Crawl seal of approval for having reached 27 pages!

Extremely OOD monsters get generated if you spend a long time on one level. Like several thousand turns long.

The longer you are there the more chance of evil coming to get you. Mostly just because the developers did not like mummy character staying there FOREVER and leveling on simple things.
