So it apparently starts, like, today? Well, today by CST standards. Neat, I guess. Was expecting sometime tomorrow. So now for my questions three:

1) How long does this thing last, again? From what I remember, it was th'whole of August, right?
2) Does anyone know what crawl considers the long-rest command, normally shift-num5? I'd like to redefine the bloody thing, since putty apparently doesn't realize its existence on this computer. Running back and forth to regen health has already gotten me killed probably three times.
3) Keeping a list o'deaths would be awesome. Would like to do it, but if it's all'a august, I'm probably going to end up with a few several hundred dead. Full chardumps would get lengthy... but if the deaths roll in as I imagine they will, even Name/Combo/death will probably hit the limit a few times. Thinking about just making four-five posts, reserving the excess, and editing them as I run out of character limit. Any other suggestions? Maybe a daily dead report?

Yep, it's starting in one hour.

1) Indeed, whole of August, plenty of time to play and improve.
2) Blyxx got it. You can also macro it to shift-num5. I don't remember what's the command for macros, but pressing F1 prompts a menu you can make them through.
3) I think everyone should just tell the deaths (or victories) of their most significant and/or funny characters. Dying right next to runes, your most successful characters, idiotic or seemingly unfair deaths, insane race/class combinaions faring well or something like managing to start worshipping Okawaru on turn 12 (like happened to me few days ago). Basically all the interesting games.

Maan, 3 am is just a tad too late for me to stay up for. Have a great start everyone, I'll be off sleeping and ready to crawl in the mornin'.

AHAHAHAHA, oh gods, thank you. That'll save so much bloody frustration... and hundreds of keypresses. Shame I'm going to have to kamikaze this sludge elf frost mage when the thing starts, though.

Yeah, I guess I'll just spoiler-list all the ones that die and highlight the interesting ones. That'll do, too. Frankly, I'm always impressed by the sheer number of corpses that tend to surround every character that actually manages to advance a bit. Amuses me endlessly

Wow....never saw 73 players online at a time on CAO....ahh well, time to play my first game of the tournament!

Edit: So, playing a Sludge Elf transmuter....pretty straightforward run so far upto the temple, now I am a bit undecided about which god to choose..
Makhleb? Fedhas? Oka? Nemelex? So many options!!

Edit: Died to a Hydra....and I saw that coming from the beginning. Hydras are my bane as a transmuter, and this game, I wasn't as lucky with items either..

 Started my first random character, and got a kobold enchanter. This run won't last long..

edit: Got beaten up by a goblin with a club, then was finished off by a dart trap. I have the KoEn highscore: 33 is the impressive total to beat..

First random was a kenku hunter, got ate by a worm. Tourney stats not seeming to notice its existance yet, so round two goes to an Ogre Arcane Marksman. Holding down n for a while with my eyes closed gets interesting combinations

Am seeing pretty noticeable lag, heh.

EDIT: Something like three minutes later, ogre walks into room with three hobgoblins in it. Managed to kill two!

EDIT2: Ohey. I somehow have the combo highscores for two mixes! That won't last long

I was writing an angry rant against CAO that registered my morgue and did not reported at all anything on my scoreboard page, when finally it appeared.

It seems there are several minutes of delay between you score a morgue file and it being reported on the tournament.

4 tries so far, 2 sprint (1 sonja and 1 menkaure) that ended very badly, 1 normal run that got my Berzerker Troll teleported against my will in a corridor full of gnolls, one equipped with some electro-wip destroyed my berzerked troll.

The last try was a Sonja sprint, and for the first time in a Sprint (helped by a berzerked Bear) i managed to kill Sonja, unfortunately some left mine no chance.

I have no idea if the Sprint count but i will focus on Normal as my normal attempt got me 5 points apparently for some reason

This year's tournament will include Dungeon Sprint. We'll activate Dungeon Sprint with a new Sprint map on August 15, a little before midnight UTC, and Sprint games started after August 15 0000 UTC (midnight UTC) on crawl.akrasiac.org or crawl.develz.org will be scored for the tournament.

Managed to kill Sigmund and Prince Ribbit so far with a Troll and an Ogre Berserker.
Got destroyed while playing a Human Paladin.

Flipping insane. Crazy good players are crazy good.

On bright side, unique murdering's coming along. Got Blork, Crazy Yiuf, Edmund, Ijyb, Menkaure (Running from him got one of my doods killed ), Sigmund, and Terence, so far. I think all of them except Terance has been killed by m'current run, heh, a random'd kobold stalker that's basically playing venom mage. If I could get something besides poison (There's like a dozen jellies/oozes on D;7) on this bloody kobold, I'd be in business. Still ring of magic power and conjstaff. Doin' alriiight.

EDIT: Or not. Score one (more) for smite. Anyway, nap time. More tomorrow!

Kobold Stalker: Orc smote while holy-daggering a quasit. Quasit was probably gonna' kill me anyway

Playing a healer as a monk that just happens to have magic healing powers is pretty effective. Naturally, though, the furthest I get this round is with the critter that just happens to have mephetic cloud 'Course, that kobold also found at least three awesome items early on (+4 holy wrath dagger, conjstaff, ring of magical power), which all helped tremendously. Now if only it'd found a book including non-poison spells...

Damn, Net Tiles does not display all the species and classes on my system, certainly a bug



Clicked a bit randomly and got wrong specie/class as a click sometime register twice, even got a "Merfolk Fire Elementalist" that was short lived as i never play those specie and class , will have to check the normal game menu to see which are the shortcut for the class and specie i want to play.

edit : oh great ... on the class menu the keys corresponding to the strangely hidden classes do not even work. wasted a few characters because of that bug.
will try the ugly ascii console version, but that's no fun.

First character of the tournament, a Trollzerker, is now clearing out the Lair. I guess I don't suck THAT bad... or maybe TrollZerkers are just easy mode.

My first game had a pretty funny death.  Spriggan Enchanter of Nemelex, made it down to level 10 or so without any real hitches, I was playing pretty carefully.  I was fighting off a couple things, and flipped a card over from one of my decks.  It was Famine!  Suddenly I am starving!  I run out of sight of whatever I was fighting and go to eat...no food!  I spend the rest of my time racing through that level, outrunning everything I run into, and finding no food...except for a meat ration.  Eventually I started passing out while running around and got murdered in my stupor.   

Current character is a HaAM, another of my favorite combos.  Just found lair and going to bed for now.

By the way, I was looking at the rankings, and some of the stuff on the scoreboard is clearly bugged.  I saw guys listed as having played 0 games, but getting points for various things.  One guy had points for a couple dozen uniques and 2 runes.  I don't really know who to ask about this...
