Also, re Tomb: Any time there's more than one sphinx on the screen, you are in immediate danger of dying from multiple smites. There are lots of sphinxes in the Tomb. Better make sure you don't teleport (or get teleported, or step on a teleport trap).

For now my Vampire Summoner is doing very good, having reached level 12 and survived a pack of Death Yaks in Lair:6 thanks to my animals, Imps and Shadow Creatures summons (nice Imps that raised 2 of the death yaks as zombies).

Looking into my current log, i noticed that my character killed only 88 monsters himself, the thousand other enemies were done for by my summons, that's a great job from them.

I went to Vehumet early in the dungeon, but it takes an insane time for him to start sending books my way, i don't know if summon kills improve piety a lot slower than my character kills, but nearly 26000 turns into the game and always not even the lowest book gift (that i already have anyways since the very start, being a summoner).

That's annoying, because my animals and Imps are a bit outclassed by the monsters i am facing now and i could really need some demons summons for their spells.
That's why i have begun to learn Earth Magic, trying to increase it to skill 5 so i can use the Summon Elemental to get earth golems without any of those tanking hulks being hostile.

I think my character is doing a bit too well, that means the crawl code will kill him soon with some stupid death.

I get Vehumet gifts usually right around the time I hit Lair when I'm killing via conjurations. Maybe you've had small levels? You can always go to Orc. All the easy orc kills means easy piety. And killing everything in Hive means even easier piety.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

I haven't been able to play for the past few days due to my connection acting up. I'll try to finish my game before the tournament ends.

Good idea thanks, i'll switch to Orc Mines as i have not yet found Hive (i believe my character is ready for it now, as my summons had no problem to kill the bees i encountered around), as Lair with Death Yak at Lair:6 may not be very healthy for my vampire.
Hopefully the game will not throw orc knights and uniques everywhere inside of it ;)

Damned Rock Trolls.
Damn them.

Don't believe the stats at all.

This thing is nearly invincible when the random numbers decide to kill your character, this Rock Troll single handedly, destroyed a dozen of iron imps, at least 4 shadow Ogres and a few shadow Orc Warriors while moving straight to my character without being blocked in his way for more than a turn as he was one shotting everything.

And then while i couldn't just believe what was going on, he destroyed my level 12 character in only 2 turns, one when he was in contact, and the second after i pressed < to climb the stairs to escape to the upper level in which several zombified friendly orc warrior could have delayed him a bit more.

And all of this without even losing 1/4 of its health.
I knew again the game would screw up a promising run with such bad luck again.

They're pretty easy to sleep or confuse. They're also slow and not poison resistant, so kiting them with needles is an easy way to go. The cloud does them in, too. Stone giants and their rocks are generally more dangerous /nod

Don't really want to take them in direct melee unless you're a major close-combat bruiser though, no. Should have ditched earlier, came back from a different direction. Also, you should have been able to icicle it to death fairly easily...or tried that disen wand.

Berserking then charging up the stairs might have worked, too. Blink scroll, a number of buff potions... you had a lot of options that probably could have saved you.

Mostly sounds like you just panicked -- any time that starts to happen, just save and go do something else for a bit. S'not really a time limit, tourney ending in ~4 days notwithstanding.

---

The defense stats you've got going are vaguely incredible, Person. I wish I had 'em...

Perhaps maybe walking around in Tomb with rC- wasn't such a good idea. I forgot that greater mummies can summon simulacra. Like golden dragon simulacra. Ones that can hit for 80 damage a turn. I even had equipment to have full resistance on everything, too. That's the worst part.

So close. Oh well. I really can't recommend enough not to go into Tomb.

It was not really panick time, more disbelief, after killing death yaks with less than what i sent to this Rock Troll i was so sure he would go down easily that i stayed on those stairs doing nothing else (has if i thought there was any kind of danger, i had many ways to escape) thinking those summons would be able to deal with it without a problem.
After all he was at least at 5 tiles and there was no way he could do what that Rock Troll managed to do to the strong summons that were sent to hammer him in so few turns without losing much health, especially considering less than that killed 3 death yaks.

If only i knew Rock Trolls were that strong, as i just tested in the arena and 1 Rock Troll just destroyed 2 death yaks.
Again a case of "know your enemy" before attacking it, i made the mistake of thinking a Rock Troll was not that much stronger than a Green Troll.
At least i'll know it for a possible next time.

Ouch.
Sometime i find the game fun, but sometime i even wonder why i launch it if the difficulty is set to ridiculous level only to kill your character whatever you can do.
Reminds me of why i ceased to play with Nethack.

Killed Mara - after maxing fire resist and engaging him, discovered he was using a demon whip of draining (I was rN++, and suffered my second exp loss of the game). Had to retreat and retool. My illusion turned out to be the bigger threat in melee.
Azrael was a pushover - 2 shotted with a wand of cold. I have also accounted for Frederick and Xtahua.
Ancient champion vault was pretty much a breeze. Loot included a rod of summoning, with the rather useful abjuration spell.

Currently up to D: 23. Boris has been left sleeping soundly on D:20, didn't want to bother him. A portal on D: 23 went to Wizlab: Doroklohe's tomb, which turned out to be horrific - I managed to kill a greater mummy, but had to run from an ancient lich.

I have four days left to clear D: 24 - 27, and Zot: 1 - 5, hopefully it will be enough time, and the rush won't lead to bad decisions..

Good job with Mara.
Mentionning the clone, i wonder for illusion clones (or even ghosts) of characters that took Trog, can they use the Berserk ability or considering it is an ability from Trog and not an innate one they can't ?

I haven't had the time and energy to play for a few days, and quite possibly won't for the few remaining days. Well, I still got three runes and a bunch of combo scores.

Well, after 276 games and more than half of them being a waste of my time due to no points being generated from them for the team, i am burned out too so i'll leave it at that and will go back to the real tile version and its most excellent interface.

At least got more points than i thought, though annoyed to not have been able to get a rune like during offline play, it was not a bad tourney for me if i try to forget how much time the game code really wanted to kill my most promising characters. :D
