Games with Airships
« on: July 17, 2010, 03:07:23 am »

I can't find my god damn Tales of Symphonia disc and therefore I am annoyed.

Anyone know any other games with airships as a main feature? Preferably RPGs, but anything'll do. I loves me some airships.

There's an old DOS flight sim called Air Power. It revolves around carrier airships. Also features mid-90's blotchy 3D though.

i had air power on dosbox a while back, found it very hard not to crash let alone fight. Would be a brilliant candidate for a remake tho.

theres the air buccaneers mod for UT but thats not an rpg

Silverfall is an rpg with airships but its baiscally a lame version of diablo, and im not sure whether u actually ever fly or enter an airship of whether they are just in the game world

http://neosteam.atlusonline.com/keyfeatures.aspx this is a moorpg i found on google search, not really my sort of game but it fits the bill

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damnation_(video_game) this has a meta critic rating in the 40s

unfortunatly steam punk and airships are only really popular in Jrpgs

there maybe airships on one of the final fantasy games

Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast and later Gamecube (with badly compressed audio that screwed up the nice music but new content) was all about airships.  It even had a combat system for them.  Divinity 2 apparently has airships though I've only played the demo and they didn't seem like such a big deal, but maybe when you become a dragon you get to fight them.

There's that game, Aero Empires or something like that that's being developed that I don't really know much about.  It's on Mod DB.

Air Buccaneers is a really awesome mod that no one plays anymore because it's a mod for UT2K4.  It's really awesome though.

Also, de5me7... basically every FF game has at least one airship, though none of them focus on them.

As long as every other obvious game has been mentioned, I'll throw in "Steel Empire" (or "Empire of Steel"), a typically ass-bastard hard side-scrolling shooter for the Sega Genesis.  It was all steampunk themed, one of the two craft you could fly was a (incredibly tiny) zeppelin, and you blew up lots of other zeppelins.  Lots of fun, if difficult enough to require emulator save-states to get through the second level without pulling your hair out, and cool to look at.

Also, de5me7... basically every FF game has at least one airship, though none of them focus on them.

Well, 4 and 6 had them feature as pretty important points.  At least in 6 you could walk around in them, and they even had roulette tables.

Storm Master. Everything is airships there.

FFXII, and to a lesser extent FFX-2, did. FFXII had those awesome airship battles at the beginning and end of the game, and for FFX-2, about half the game was spent on the airship either wondering what the hell you were going to do next, or watching Yuna halfheartedly dodge Brother's attempts at incest with her.

I've seen mentions of AirBuccaneers. I've still been trying to arrange a good time for a Bay-12 match to take place. I mean, considering old chatlogs in my livestream channel, I had comments regarding the mod and asking what it was and etc.

Seeing as I should have more time nowadays, I might actually be able to arrange something of a multi-player meetup or something now. I'll maybe start a new thread regarding that if I hadn't already in the Play with your Buddies forum sometime later. But we'd have to arrange a good time that we'll all be playing at the same time. I'd like to see the full potential of the battleships with a fully manned crew. I mean, 1-man army-ing it with a battleship is fun and all, but it would be nice to have a crew sometime to command.

FF4 had like half a dozen different airships. Was rather interesting.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

There was an Unreal Tournament mod called "Air Buccaneers" wich featured awesome battles with fleets of airships.
But I believe it's long dead...

Download page for it. The site news stops at 5 years ago, so it's pretty much dead. Screenshots of it do look awesome though. Rez it for ourselves?

EDIT: Downloaded it and played it for a bit. It is indeed awesome. A bit hard to control since you have to do everything manually, but still fun.

Arcanum had an airship in it.

Didn't last very long, though.
