The Foundation is the very best organization that can exist in the inevitably horrible and dark world that we live in. The fact that they are the very best- the good guys- and that they do such things as Montuak, or incinerating whole towns, or using random people arrested for jaywalking to feed such things as SCP-[REDACTED] on a daily basis is perhaps the most fundamental terror of the whole SCP organization.

As Orwell is said to have said, "Good men sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf"- We can only live in our "normal" world because of the incredible and often abhorrent work of the SCP foundation. And, more than any other terror, it remains with us when we close the page and walk away; for, while the specifics vary, every one of us knows that somewhere, there is a person- or perhaps many people- who are suffering so that we may have the comforts of our lifestyle.

I'm not saying that we should give up buying video games because the fifty dollars you spend on what will be a coaster in a week could easily buy the medication needed to save the life of ten Indonesian children- there are enough christian commercials blaring at all hours saying that- I'm saying that you will choose to buy the game because you, like myself, are too lazy to figure out the best way to donate. And, here's the scary part- next time you do buy a game, you will not, for even a fleeting siecond, feel guilty about putting three hours of shooting digital Nazis above the life of ten children.

That is why D-classes are scary. Because they are, in a sense, real.

I don't have to feel bad about spending money on video games that I could be donating to charities, because I pirate my games. Ha!

Wrong. The Foundation wants things to be secret, to contain and control things that they never will. If you want gritty good guys who will do what they must, look no further than the Global Occult Coaliton. Their willingness to destroy the things the Foundation contains to giving up their secrets to ensure the survival of mankind make them far better people than the Foundation.

Some of what the Foundation does is needed; but their evil comes from needlessly throwing away lives, commiting acts of pure malice that serve no goal, and from not trying to resolve the few things that do reqire questionable acts.

I would say that the foundation is needed. Parts of it have been corrupted (hopefully no overseers) but as a whole it is needed. The GOC is needed as well but they go way to far and try to destroy instead of understand.

The Foundation are hardly good guys. They do do some things which are beneficial to humanity, but they also do an awful lot of terrible things to people if only because the Foundation has practically limitless money and resources, is supported by every civilized country in the world, and the various 05's probably have more power at their disposal than most world leaders. That in mind, there's no reason why they CAN'T do terrible things to people on a near-constant basis.

Unfortunately, the foundation still has a one-up on the GOC, if only in one respect. While the GOC wants to protect the world by destroying the things that can bring about an end-of-the-world scenario, the foundation is actively trying to 'learn' from the things that can bring about the end of the world. Looking at the world that the foundation lives in, SCP's are all over the place. Extra-dimensional entities pop into existence just to fuck with people, items of questionably inscrutable power are found just lying around in ordinary people's homes, mad scientists seems to churn out unfathomable artifacts every now and then 'just because', and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight to the creation of SCP's. With this knowledge, the SCP Foundation is probably the most altruistic entity on the planet, as they're trying to learn WHY all these things are the way they are, and if we do, then a whole new spectrum of possibilities opens up to mankind. So go ahead and sit back and call the Foundation a bunch of evil bastards, but when an Eldritch Horror from beyond the stars opens up a portal on the moon, and he sticks his head out and sings the song that ends the Earth, the SCP Foundation might just interrupt him, going "Oh hey, look what we found out!" and then they use some extra-dimensional technology (learnt from the various SCP's) they rigged up to throw all his evil magic back in his face.

I don't think the GOC is willing to do what it takes to preserve humanity from the unknown, is what I'm trying to say.

My new favorite SCP is 674. Especially the bit at the end where the researcher could not kill Kirk no matter how hard he tried.

To be fair, he knew it follows in-universe rules. It being unable to kill Kirk isn't that unexpected.

It'll drive you mad, maybe, if you don't know what you're getting into or you're stupid enough to point it at yourself. Other than that, it'll, at worst, deprive you of the comedy from your favorite comedy or something.

So really, it's nothing unusual even by normal object standards. It can kill you if you don't know what you're doing (and if the situation arises when you have it on hand and you have access to a video feed of yourself then you're really, really unlucky) or if you're a complete fucking idiot.
