Personally i prefere to be the tech with a flamer guarding the back and having the heavy guns in the front, while the medic heals & stuns whatever gets too close.
problem is that this rarely happens due to people wanting to kill everything that moves and i have to go up front to hurry them up.

Flamer doesn't work so hot (c wut i did thar) on insane - tesla is okay if you don't mind them being a pain in the ass later. But flamer, I find inadequate generally, on account of its poor ability to do damage (if you're gonna slow, take a gun meant for doing so). Soooo yeah.

Flamers save ammo better than teslas, and leave your mobility more intact.

Yeah, but like I said my preferred method is just killing them with a Vindicator.

On hard, the flamer is unbeatable for the 1-2 fire and fist combo, but it is still quite useful on insane; our general technique is the 2 big guns at the the front (or wherever most of the swarm are coming from) and the flamer (medic) + prototype rifle or similar (tech) covering the back. The slowdown from the flamer isn't quite as pronounced as the tesla, but it's still enough for the tech to take the buggers down, and the flamer is usually more versatile than the tesla gun otherwise.

I play mostly on insane and flamer is my favorite. I rarely need ammo refills and it is good at stunning the aliens. If you just click out some flames it barely hurt team mates but it still ignites aliens.
Only bad thing with it is against large aliens and that drones need a second dose of flame before they die on insane

Well, with regards to flamer FF, yes and no. It deals minimal damage... unless you ignite them, whereupon their health drops fast and doesn't stop dropping unless you quickly extinguish them. Friendly 'fire', indeed.
