Certainly holds some promise for the future though.

Has there been any word on expanding this game, or is it all mod content from here on?

I've been watching the alien quadrilogy this past week (hey, he said Bay 12! I should tell the others! *forum search* Oh, so that's where it came from) and it's obvious where the inspiration came from. I'm totally in the Alien Swarm mood this last week, and maxed out my level yesterday. Going to try "insane" on sunday :)

Does promoting actually do anything beyond 'bragging rights'?

You misunderstand. Once you have hit max level you can 'promote' yourself. You are reset to level 1 and you gain a decoration or medal.

I was wondering if this does anything beyond show how much time you have put into the game.

You get a medal. But other than that, no.

You sacrifice 27 levels to enlargen your e-penis. completly unnecessary, but i did it anyway so that i have a goal to hit max level again.

Alright, then I will hold off doing it for a while so I can get my achievemnts with the unlocked gear.

BTW: Am I the only one who likes the flashlight attachment? I've never seen anyone else use it, but I find it very handy on some missions. Flares as well, to a lesser extent.

Flashlight? I found it kinda meh. And then I promoted.  :P

Flares, though, are a freakin' life saver. For one, they grant auto-aim against enemies in the area. For two, they're incredible in dark areas - I have no clue how teams manage to survive the ventilation system in the "biomass/egg" level without flares scattered liberally throughout. And third, you get such a ridiculous number (14, is it?) that you can practically chuck one or two at every noteworthy encounter and never run out.

for one - Who needs autoaim?
for two - Flamers illuminates AND incinerates the vents
and third - Uh... Yeah, you're right. But still, there are better choises =D

Yeah, liberal application of flamer is how I deal with the vents.

Which works great, if your allies all have them as well. Flares light up the level for everybody. NVGs, not so much.  :P

Actually, I've never used them myself, but a teammate once tried them out. Apparently, they're surprisingly good (he claimed that the parasites practically glowed in those dark vents). Beyond that, dunno.

Sounds like they'd be nice in the residential level and, possibly, the surface bridge.
