Flamethrower is REALLY useful on hard. you can fire puffs of flame into any group of Swarm to start the damage-over time then just wander away or punch it to finish it off.

The thing is, on hard and insane (I think hard, at least) a single flamethrower puff will not kill a drone. They eventually extinguish still alive. A flamethrower puff and a melee attack will kill them though.

hhmmmm... is "asw_parasite" really the name of the npc to spawn? all that works for me is asw_drone... I wish I knew what I could put there.

alright, yea,  it is asw_parasite. I dont know why it didnt work before. Anyways, if you let it spawn hundreds of parasites, they arent scary at all, anymore, because you spot them easily.. and once you see one, you know there are more and just unload.

I guess we're looking at a classical Conservation Of Ninjitsu situation here.

Last night I was playing with some RL friends who were fairly terrible.  We managed to get to the last level on hard and even to the last room a few times but then the first time we were advancing slowly, and then my friend who always plays sarge shot me about five times in a row with a Vindicator while aiming at a swarm egg and killed me, the medic.  Then he got infested and dies while the tech was the only survivor with a flame thrower and made it half way back before getting infested.  We never made it back to that room if I recall, although one time we almost did before we got attacked by two shield bugs and the guy who was the tech before but switched with me just ran away and left us all to die.  After a few more tries the heavy apparently got tired of me trying to give orders and started shooting me, so I flamed him, then sarge killed me and we lost because I was the tech.  Finally they all decided to call it quits.

It's frustrating.  I know about two people in RL that play computer games, and both of them are only really good at Massively Multiplayer Online Roll Playing Grinds and Real time strategy games, my two least favorite genres.

Also, as the tech, last guy alive, and i pick up a fallen comrades flamethrower, this is the first big parasite level. I clear out all the eggs and get to the final elevator following my allies directions. And then I run out of ammo.

There was my heroic victory smashed.

Fuck you aliens.

Usually it kills them rather quickly.

However the Tesla Gun has TONS of ammo... I've never run out. And against the Shield bugs it is priceless.

Same. I take the Tesla Cannon with me at all times. Aiming is so much easier with it.

This seems fun, but I think I need lower settings. Anyone mind telling me what the absolute lowest settings are? I got it to play, but it was fairly choppy.
