I have not been able to get random maps working in multiplayer at all. Keep in mind I can host the game well enough in normal matches.

Let me recount:
1. Tilegen ingame, export and play. Nope.
2. Use "map output" to host custom map. Nope.
3. Send .layout file and .vtf files to friends to use. Nope.
4. Send entire freaking maps folder to friends. Nope.
5. Everyone has Swarm SDK. Nope.
6. Modify map in Hammer and send completed product to friends. Nope.
7. Pray to Satan. Nope.
8. Use different friends. Nope.
9. Use different computer. Nope.
10. Hijack neighbour's internet. Nope.
11. Invite friends after game has already started. Nope.
12. Invite friends after game has ended. Nope.
13. Make no-alien map. Nope.
14. Make a map with just three rooms. Entrance -> stuff -> exit. Nope.

So.... screw it.

I've been having different problems. I've been writing stuff to the config.cfg... and no matter what the game says... this gets overwritten again and again.

So I haz made autoexec.cfg.... seems to work fine now. Because I don't want to type

asw_fast_reload_under_marine 1
asw_ignore_need_two_player_requirement 1
asw_horde_override 1

In the console EVERYTIME I start it up :D

You could bind them to keys, that way you can disable it easily too.

e.g:
Bind F11 "asw_fast_reload_under_marine 1;asw_ignore_need_two_player_requirement 1;asw_horde_override 1"

See if you can find a file that represents the jacob's rest campaign. Reverse engineer that and put yours in a similar location.

hey, that director AI plus the few settings to tweak, that is AWESOMESAUCE 2000™!

I just set min spawn size to 100 and max to 120, and then I had a look how far I could get in normal with 3 bots :D

it was brütäl helldeäth.

You could bind them to keys, that way you can disable it easily too.

e.g:
Bind F11 "asw_fast_reload_under_marine 1;asw_ignore_need_two_player_requirement 1;asw_horde_override 1"
Well, the only thing to turn off would be the Horde AI, no?

afaik you can even bind buttons in a way so you can increase and decrease values, so basically, what do I know.. lemme think...
F9 and F10 to adjust min horde size, f10 and f11 to adjust max size and some other F keys for the intervals... you wouldnt know how to do that, do you :P

At any rate.. we got random maps, we got director ai, we got levels and xp...

This looks like a friggin perfect scaffolding for an eyecandied version of ZAPM, maybe even with coop :D

I just got facehugged like seven times in the last mission.

It was on easy mode, but I was the medic, I only have beacons, and there were only three of us.  We're all noob.

It was pretty awesome.


(EDIT:  Clarification, heal beacons, no medic gun.  I took beacons and an assault raffle.)

heh, im just beginning to find out that I can actually tweak the scanner so I dont really have to watch the minimap... ill just make it properly audible! You can even set it in a way the enables you to judge the distance to the movement contact by ear.

twas just offline practice. but with at least 100 drones every minute it was kind of insanish, even on normal :D

aaaand look what i found:

so, set it to 1 and you got a pretty full fledged offline mode :) I bet limiting hte number of bots and unlocking insane is possible too
