My Blacksmith becoming the crazy cat lady.
« on: July 16, 2010, 04:04:58 pm »

In my current Fortress, all of my cats and kittens have been adopting our local blacksmith, one by one. He now has a small entourage of cats following him around when they're not off doing other stuff. I fear he may become one of those crazy cat ladies.

Ah, you must not have heard of catsplosions then...

Oh, you know then.  :P  I would personally locked him up and atomsmash the kittens.

Maybe he likes cats?  I know that when you set animals to be adopted that only people who likes the animals (For their haunting moos, strength, what have you).  Check his preferences?

Or it might be a fluke.  The cats smelt weakness and pounced.

It's alright, I can slaughter the extras before they attach to someone for meat. Still, I have a picture of a crazy-eyed dwarf with bedraggled clothing and cats nesting in his long beard. Sibrek Nebélastesh, the crazy cat dwarf.

He's currently a legendary metalsmith.

This actually happens quite often to me, really annoying, but also convenient to kill them off.

He's actually worth something. Probably don't want to kill him then. Use one of the many cat killing options. One really simple one is putting a lever at the end of a hallway that alternates spikes and tightly closed doors. Set the lever onto repeat with only the blacksmith set to use it. He goes in, cats follow, they get killed.

It's not too many cats yet, but it will be if I don't keep an eye on them. Still it can be quite amusing.

You need to give this man some personal happiness boosters beforehand though. Dead pets are serious mood killers. Let him lounge in a royal bedroom for a season or two before you let loose the catricide.

Just get a nice statue garden and zoo. Put them near each other, and build artifacts in the hallway leading to them. Or even put the artifacts in the meeting places. Waterfalls solve a lot of problems as well. And create some too...
