Anyone remember a little developer called Simtex? I still sometimes find myself whistling themes from Master of Magic:

Look also for themes 2 and 3 in the sidebar. Also Master of Orion 2:

Same deal with the sidebar. Ah, nostalgia.

Michiel van den Bos.  Did stuff for such games as Age of Wonders (the first one.  Not hiring him for the sequel was a huge mistake), Overlod, Deus Ex, and Unreal Tournament.

Age of Wonders  (he composed and performed the entire score for this game on a keyboard)

Overlord  (he had a little more to work with for this one)

Deus Ex  (it's very easy to identify his style)

UT  (...usually)

Oh, and I of course have to mention Max Payne, you tossers.  Also the Max Payne 2 remake.

Pretty much anything by Jeremy Soule I like.  He did several games mentioned here, including Total Annihilation and Secret of Evermore.  There's also a remix of the Narshe theme from FF6 by him out there somewhere which is pretty sweet.

A lot of people have said things I'd already say myself (Chrono Cross, Seiken Densetsu 3, etc etc etc).  Hell, I'm working on learning to play the CC ending theme on guitar.

But if official remixes count:  Try Cross a Fear, from Castlevania (some game or another in the series...)

As totally different as they are, both these songs got me into playing guitar :x

(While I'm at it, want some guitar tabs for game music?)

Oh, shite, almost forgot Tristram.

Actually, listening to a few of the other tracks from Diablo, you really start to get an appreciation for Matt Uelman.

So, say I'm a little bit lazy and don't really want to collect video game music for my own personal collection, but want to listen to it nonetheless. Is there somewhere online I could listen to it streaming? Maybe even make up a little playlist of games/genres I want to hear from? I downloaded all of OCRemix a while ago, so I could just put the whole thing on random, but there's a lot in there I don't know. I'd like to use it to study for the next week and don't have time to do much other than study.

Edit: Just bothered to do the google search myself and found rainwave.cc. Looks pretty neat and they let you vote for what's coming next.

FF6, FFtactics, and Lufia 2? REALLY rainwave, you want to make me choose among those? (Also notice it's playing from cave story currently)

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Anyone remember BigMog?  :(

...There's a song I've been trying to find for years and years that I heard on there, but I have no idea what name it was / where it's from / whether it's even game or anime.

I'd have to say the music from one of the Phantasy Star games on the GameGear. I can't remember which at the moment.

Also, the Wild Arms XS theme.

The final dogfight between Solo Wing Pixy and Cipher (you) from Ace Combat Zero. It was fantastic, but you have to be playing to get why.

Castlevania music, especially from Lament of Innocence.
Theme of Laura and Promise from Silent Hill 2.
Metal Gear stuff, including Snake Eater.

And this.

Touhou just...Touhou. You don't have to like the games at all, but there's literally something for every taste and at worst, the music is still not bad at all.
Final Fantasy, Ace Combat, and Legend of Zelda are famous for their music, and you know what, here. Everything you could want. And then some, if you're one who has not learned to resist the power of the links. And if it doesn't have everything, make it so it does.
