Super Smash Brothers Brawl has some quite excellent remixes and rearrangements of various pieces of music.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon has a few awesome pieces. Okami has stellar music. And so do the (older, at least) C&C games. Final Fantasy goes without saying, even the mostly overlooked FFXI. Then there's Halo, Evil Genius, Darwinia and Total Annihilation. And if you include the fact that a few tracks were by real bands, Borderlands and Mass Effect.

I forgot about them. Red Alert 2 has some of my favourite game music on it.

The character's themes from FF6(especially Terra's and Locke's), the intro music from FF4(no real name, known only as "prologue". And it is the greatest, most nostalgic song ever written), One Winged Angel, Still Alive. The majority of those are so good mainly due to the memories of the games themselves, but they are all great in their own right.

Despite all the good music out there I must vouch for This first and formost. One of the best game themes out there. From Chrono Cross, the sequel to the well-liked Chrono Trigger. The lack of direction and odd battle system made it an ehh RPG, but the music was still good.
Huh, I'd forgotten just how good Chrono Cross's music was. I guess I was a bit distracted by it invalidating everything you did in the first game and saying "No. The world is still gonna end. You failed, and the heroes are all dead. Ha ha." Also, it was brutally hard in some parts, simply because you couldn't ever level up apart from fighting bosses. The story also wasn't very gripping for some reason, maybe because plot points were too far apart or something, I don't know.

The music from cave story.

I weep every time I hear Moonsong.
And now I'm listening to it again.

I have an absolute love for the Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3 (Secret of Mana and its sequel, for th'states) soundtracks. There were a couple awesome songs (Prayers of Ganbo!) from Grandia, too. And lots, and lots, and lots of others :P

*re-reads thread* No Donkey Kong love? Th'SNES soundtracks were absolutely beautiful, for pretty much all of the games.

Also this, of course.

Everything in Metal Gear Solid 1, and the opening theme for MGS3.

Aquaria. The moment I first heard "The Traveller", I nearly disintegrated from the awesome.

Most Final Fantasy songs are also awesome. Especially Dancing Mad and Clash on the Big Bridge.

Oh, and the TF2 intro. Catchy as hell.

Oh man. I listen to more video game music than any sane person should. I'm not sure where to start. It's far too broad, but my favorite company (well, mostly they just publish) is Nippon Ichi Software. Most of the games they've published have great gameplay and great music. The Disgaea series and the Mana Khemia series, in particular, have sweet music. There's also the battle music from Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song. Great stuff.

I'll just drop a few links here.

The opening theme to FFX. It made even more sense once you actually got to the scene shown (which surprised the heck out of me, I thought that would be the end, it was barely halfway through). Very sad, very well written.
