Build a legendary bedroom with a legendary dining room, assign it to the unhappy dorf.  Fill the room with high quality everything, a statue garden / zoo with one of everything (doubles as emergency food reserve), and a quantum mist generator.  Happiness is mandatory here.  Armok is watching.

You can actually build a very nice jail such that dwarves can gain alot of happiness by being imprisoned. As soon as they break something, the sherrif hauls them downtown to chill out.

Does this involve a jail designated from a cage or from chains? I wanted to try this but wasn't sure on the details. Could I designate a room from awesome gold chains for justice, then fill it with booze, engravings, encrusted bed, and other awesome furniture. Would he be able to use all those items while incarcerated?

Sounds like a really cool idea. Please let me know what yours looks like.

It only works with chains. Thing is, chains only allow 1 tile of movement on each side of the chain, so you will need something like this:

Code: [Select]
%%Θ
÷φ╥
÷Ω╤

φ=Chain
%=Prepared meal
÷=Booze

With the whole thing engraved and smoothed, of course. Keep in mind the dwarf can also admire engravings/statues on the area directly orthogonal to the cell.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

That's exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks a lot!

If you want to be cheap, you can arrange for a cleverly placed cave-in in order to trap your dwarf in a cage, then release him for a +1000 happiness boost.

wait what how?

Friendlies and trap-avoiders are vulnerable to cage traps if they're unconscious. Cave-in dust makes them go unconscious. Once you have some dwarves trapped, you can construct the cages and attach them to a lever, releasing them. The "just was released from a cage" thought makes dwarves get +1000 happiness. Instant mandatory happiness.

The more efficient, reusable way to do this is to build off of a GCS silk farm.  Build it full of cage traps, with a profiled lever to draw the dwarf you want.  Since you probably also want to collect webs, this should be an isolated wing of the silk farm.  Stop collecting silk, open the cage room, and send your dwarf in to pull a lever.  If he gets webbed on the same square as a trap, he becomes vulnerable to the trap.

When I discovered this, it was via a bait animal that was simultaneously caged and chained :)  Haven't done a lot of exploring with it, but it might be possible to do some interesting things via innocent caged dwarfs.  For instance, do caged nobles make mandates or get unhappy thoughts?  Do strange mood timers count down on caged dwarfs?

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

Wouldnt a burrow of the spiffy room with the troublesome dorf assigned to the burrow work?
