OK, I had alot of trouble making this... I wound up using plenty of filters and layering partially transparent crops of multiple images together in a really complicated mash, but, anyway...

What do you not understand about "as bright as possible"? :P

Heh, sorry, but I was going off of a handful of models:

http://www.crystalinks.com/amazonite.jpg
http://www.metaphysicalrealm1.com/info/Microcline1.jpg
http://www.turnstone.ca/amaz-02.jpg

Basically, many microclines are just pale grayish, but that "amazonite" is apparently the light cyan color, and I basically just mashed some of the areas that were of relatively the same shade (instead of being brighter to the top or the top left of my cropping) together, especially the top right area of that first one.

We should have an option to have the original brightness of DF :D

Who needs realism anyway?

I actually alter my light cyan's brightness down...  a dark blue-green is actually my favorite color.

Anyway, a few adjustments to brightness, saturation, and contrast later...

Spoiler: Painful Microcline (click to show/hide)

That better?

That looks more like adamantine then microcline to me.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Since we're making textures, here's a quick and dirty (5 mins) obsidian:

That's just silliness, as obviously,

:D Awesome! Though it isn't quite eye-burningly bright.

Umm... nothing's showing up for me.  Putting in the image's addy manually just gives me a 404.

Incidentally, I have several images of obsidian lying around from the whole "magma should not cool into obsidian" thread...

It would be difficult to texturize a "solid obsidian wall"... you'd probably have something more like snowflake obsidian from points where water had seeped in.

An object made of pure obsidian, though, may as well just be jet black with plenty of glossiness, though.

edit:  oooh, add this:

Obsidian is a lot like glass with that glossiness. Plus it's awesome because you can make blades of that stuff only a few molecules thick.

Here we go... this is my version of an obsidian wall...  All stratified with hydrated snowflake obsidian layers.

There needs to be a slider, like this:

So we got monsters above, monsters below, dwarves in the middle and a party in the dining hall. Sounds good to me.
If all else fails, remember one thing:  kittens are delicious, nutritious little goblin-baiters, cavern explorers, and ambush-finders.
