Come on, what the hell does a soap block wall look like?

Spoiler: block of organic soap (click to show/hide)
That looks...

Yeah.

That looks so fresh, you can practically taste the mermaid babies!  Why, I do say that looks fit to support an entire fortress on a single bar of it!

OK, OK, I'll get to work on a "soap brick wall"...

EDIT: Here we go, http://howtogogreentips.com/blog/tag/black-soap/ which looks much different from just the "olive oil soap", which were just a boring, uniform tan.

I think I can make this look good...

EDIT AGAIN: http://dnatural.webs.com/Youroba%20Black%20Soap.jpg  Doesn't that look nummy?

Tried reinstalling the VC redistributable but it didn't help.
The crash report says it crashed in irrlicht.dll.

Yeah, apparently, they don't, which is too bad, because they look positively disgusting (like a giant brick of earwax mixed with dogfood), and apparently, you have to pay $200 to import about 15 lbs of this stuff...

Well, I might use a few shots of that stuff in the bricks of soap...

Soap for tiling (only 128x128, since I expect it to be tiled only on item surfaces)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This, meanwhile, is my "soap brick wall"... OK, so it's kind of goofy looking, but I had fun making it, so meh.

That tiling soap looks really weird, it looks more like a beehive or something with those hexagons.

OK, I ran some filters over the soapwall to make the look more like bricks

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And I redid the soap tile (the problem was caused by the GIMP's way of "making seemless" tiles that had gradients in them: it has it fluctuate between light and dark spots.):

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I made it better by manually blurring or clone stamping the bad parts out, then running the filter again.

I'm still working on the material/resource system.

This is the resource file door.txt
Code: [Select]
[NAME:DOOR]
[MESH:door.obj]
[POSITION:0:0:0]
[ROTATION:0:0:0]
[SCALE:1:1:1]
Now this resource will be used for all doors. Let's say we want to use different doors depending on surrounding terrain, or have a different mesh for different quality doors.

Maybe something like this would solve it.
Code: [Select]
[NAME:DOOR]
[MESH:door.obj]
[POSITION:0:0:0]
[ROTATION:0:0:0]
[SCALE:1:1:1]
[QUALITY:ALL]

[NAME:DOOR]
[MESH:door_revolving.obj]
[POSITION:0:0:0]
[ROTATION:0:0:0]
[SCALE:1:1:1]
[QUALITY:ALL]
[CLASSIFIER:REVOLVINGDOOR]

[NAME:DOOR]
[MESH:door_masterwork.obj]
[POSITION:0:0:0]
[ROTATION:0:0:0]
[SCALE:1:1:1]
[QUALITY:MASTERWORK]

[NAME:DOOR]
[MESH:door_revolving_masterwork.obj]
[POSITION:0:0:0]
[ROTATION:0:0:0]
[SCALE:1:1:1]
[QUALITY:MASTERWORK]
[CLASSIFIER:REVOLVINGDOOR]
DFize itself would of course be responsible for classifying when a door is revolving (when there are walls on at least 3 adjacent tiles?) or when it is a masterwork one and change resource accordingly.

The same would apply to materials.
This is the material granite.txt
Code: [Select]
[NAME:GRANITE]
[MATERIAL_TYPE:STONE]
[TEXTURE:0:stone.png]

[COLOR_AMBIENT:255:32:32:32]
[COLOR_DIFFUSE:255:0:0:0]
[COLOR_EMISSIVE:0:0:0:0]
[COLOR_SPECULAR:255:255:255:255]
If we wanted to use a different material for a granite door we could do something like this
Code: [Select]
[NAME:GRANITE]
[MATERIAL_TYPE:STONE]
[TEXTURE:0:stone.png]

[COLOR_AMBIENT:255:32:32:32]
[COLOR_DIFFUSE:255:0:0:0]
[COLOR_EMISSIVE:0:0:0:0]
[COLOR_SPECULAR:255:255:255:255]

[NAME:GRANITE]
[MATERIAL_TYPE:STONE]
[TEXTURE:0:stone.png]
[TEXTURE:1:door.png]
[BUILDING:DOOR]

What do you guys think? I feel like this isn't too complicated and still gives a lot of customization.

I can't get it to work.
It crashes immediately upon start, the border of its window shows, then crash.
Tried reinstalling the VC redistributable but it didn't help.
The crash report says it crashed in irrlicht.dll.

I am on Windows XP sp 2.

Can you see the console window when it crashes and if you can, can you see any error messages in it?

Yeah the console appears first before the main window. All it says:

Code: [Select]
Irrlicht Engine version 1.7.1
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Dodatek Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

Edit: Redownloaded DFize just in case, still no luck...

That's strange. Might be related to your graphics card. Are the drivers updated?

Do you have the same issue with the first version of DFize?

Tried the version you posted.
At first it complained about the lack of msvcp100d.dll, so I got it and put in into the system32 folder.
Then the same story with msvcr100d.dll.
Then it said wrong DF version or something like that, so I copied memory.xml from the latest DFize and it actually worked.

About my graphics drivers I have the latest ones available for my card, still 6 months old, but they don't cause any problems with anything so far.
Also Visual Fortress worked just fine for me.

NEVER download single DLL files.

there's an MSVC runtimes download linked in the first OP. reove the DLL files you downloaded, and use that.
