Taming. Does it still work?
« on: July 15, 2010, 12:00:47 pm »

Im currently playing a fortress in 31.10 and it does not seem to matter how many caged animals i have, when i go to the kennel to tame them there is no option to tame. Anyone?

Are the animals you have conventional domestic creatures (like horses and camels) or exotic pets (alligators and wombats and such)?  Exotic animals require the Dungeon Master to tame, and the Dungeon Master never seems to show up in DF2010.

I thought you had to release the animals from cages before you could tame them into war beasts or hunters.  Caged wild animals can be tamed, unless they are exotic, and the dungeonmaster does not show up in .10.

@Calathar, nope.

As for the training problem, there is a NoExotics utility over on the modding section which will fix this. May require a regen though.

Im aware that the Dungeon master is bugged currently. And just now i decided to look at all the raws. It looks like pretty much every animal is classified as exotic now. I guess im going to have to change that.

Just use an "advanced" text editor like notepad++. With that sort of thing it's laughably easy to open all pet-related files in the raw folder and replace all instances of [PET_EXOTIC] with [PET] at once. I'm pretty sure this didn't even require a regen in 40d, so it probably won't do so in .31 either.

I can confirm it does not require a regeneration.

The elves brought me grizzly bears. What luck, they are trainable into War Grizzly Bears by default!

Are you certain you changed the raws in your save folder?

Hahaha thats what it was. I was changing the general raws, not the region raws. Cheers Gax.

Now this is another taming related question. I changed alot of the raw files, both game and regional and then tamed some captured giant olms. It says they are stray, but when i try to release them from cages, they get trasfered to another cage. When stuck in a room with goblins and trolls they do nothing. The catch. They where part of a gobbo invasion force. Is that why they look tamed but arnt tamed for me despite taming them?
