Fortress ideas- Upon a mountain of fire
« on: July 15, 2010, 09:55:00 am »

I currently have a pretty metal fortress: A keep built on top of a mountain over a magma shaft- very handy for smelters, forges and such, not to mention garbage disposal :D

But I have run a little low on ideas.
Firstly, what would be a cool way to start my main shaft down into the mountain? (most stone was taken from strip mining a nearby peak, its kind of running a bit low now)
Seccondly, what would be a suitable cool feature for the entrace way to the keep/fortress?

well firts of all make a magma moat atthe base layer of the volcano, then have a drawbridge going over it

Unfortunalty Only one side of the map reaches down to normal ground level and that is just a few tiles wide :/

Construct a new ground level out of floors, then have a ramp up to it, install magma moat near the mountain.

Nah, just dig a trench around the mountain- easier than constructing.

What do you really need to turn Elves into Dwarves? Mutation could make them grow a beard; insanity effects could make them evil-minded, aggressive, tree-hating cave dwellers, and instant, full necrosis of their lower legs could make them short.

Now that is an idea. Could build it close to the fort so that nobles can have windows overlooking the glowing magma moat below.

Don't forget the floodgates that allow you to flood the world with magma. :D

Or maybe even doors overlooking the magma moat below!

and thus that leads to the best noble execution method ever. flood their room with water, then open the door and watch them get washed into the magma.
