anvil fall traps

much like a stone fall trap, the anvil fall trap will do more damage and make a *DONG* sound whenever it hits a target.  I think it would be pretty awesome to see a snakeman get splatted by an anvil.

Um.  Anvils are sort of hard to make; they use up a lot of metal.  Why would anyone waste time (and an anvil) on this trap when they could just make a huge axe or something similar much more cheaply and effectively?

The rolling boulders are another thing from Dungeon Keeper 2, if you didn't know.  They might be interesting to see in Dwarf Fortress, but I wonder how they'd work...

You'd probably have to build them from the traps/mechanisms menu, choosing a direction for them to roll in with their 'q' menu.  Then, you could either link them up to a lever/pressure plate, or have a dwarf manually come over and give them a shove.  They'd roll in a straight line, smacking anything they hit until they hit something really big, smashed into a wall, went into river/chasm/lava, went off the edge of the map, or something like that.  If they're rolling in a channel, they could follow it, maybe.

Y'know...I bet this boulder trap could be linked to how water flows to make it follow tunnels properly and stuff. Just make it go straight instead of turning into a wave in open spaces. Still bet it'd be tricky.

...while we're at it, how about a 'rolling' weapon that uses either piles of rocks, boulders, or logs to created a 1-tile wall-o-death, operated by siege dudes. Launch a few waves of boulders at incoming beasties!

Rolling boulder trap also featured in Nethack, don't forget.

I'd build a bowling alley for myself if that ever gets put in.

Scrap the anvil, let's just have an oversized weight with 16T written on it in giant white letters.

(And then, of course, teach all our military Dwarves how to defend themselves against an assailant armed with a sharpened piece of mango).

"I now eat the banana!"

That reminds me of the Swedish translation of Dungeon Keeper - boulder traps had been renamed Indy-fällor, or "Indy traps".

This thread is too good NOT to cast necromancy on.

As for the question of "wasting an anvil" on it, the trap would presumably be reloadable like stone fall traps.

Instead of this, there should be an "Item-fall trap" that can drop any item.

And does damage based on its weight?

A lead statue would be amusing. How about a coffin? An elephant cage?

Screw the cage, drop the elephant!  Animal-fall traps galore!

Well, alright, so you can already make those.

Y'know, you could put cheese in an item-fall trap.  That would be fun.
