Dwarf had a mood, was doing stuff elsewhere so didn't pay too much attention, was going to find him in a few if he didn't start something.  Sure enough he began work, artifact copper toy axe, woo!  And... was stolen by a raccoon.  Almost immediately

Seems the dwarf claimed an abandoned metalsmith's forge near where my wagon was I had forgot to deconstruct instead of one inside with the rest of my crafting hub.  The dwarf in question had hauling turned off temporarily as I was mass smoothing some water pipes before I flooded 'em so he made it, left it there and buggered off leaving it there.  Raccoon swooped in and stole many thousands worth of dorfbucks  D=

I'd always assumed that kobolds just run back to their... wherever kobolds live, but do animals that steal stuff just disappear, or what?

That really sucks... atleast if it was a kobold (and a useful artifact), you could have an epic adventure mode quest to reclaim the lost artifact... but a raccoon? Ouch...

I have never had a kobold ambush so I usually leave stockpiles of aluminium crafts outside my fort to try and tempt them, problem is I usually have a swarm of war bears by then.  raccoons do seem to almost be better at stealing because of their tenacity

Same thing happened to me with a copper battle axe (Not artifact).. Looks like those little buggers are forming an army..

I love raccoons, I wont attack them and leave food and bits of shiny glass out for them.

i had two different raccon steal two different artifacts. in the first year. be happy.

... right before my fortress got violated by goblins (Seems I do not fully understand the new military system even after browsing the wiki) a dwarf got a mood

He crafted a stone scepter.  On it was an image of a raccoon stealing the artifact toy axe previously mentioned  =D
