War dogs?
« on: July 13, 2010, 03:02:21 pm »

My friend says war dogs aren't powerful or strong in any form. But I have about 10 of them and they tore apart a goblin when I was seiged.
What do you think?

well a single goblin isn't that strong and compared to other creatures they aren't really strong.

Depends on the target's amount of armor and the material it is made from.

copper mail shirt, leggings, helm, gauntlets, low boots and that goblin would be near impossible to kill by your war dogs.

Only in dwarven culture is alcohol poisoning a death worthed investigating, while being impaled through several toes, a eye, and a thumb from a spiraling water[3] is not.  Because everyone knows, the only way a dwarf could get alcohol poisoning is if someone put poison into the alcohol.

War Dogs are great against unarmoured masses. I'm guessing your friend still believes the bite-damage bug is still in effect. Which made teeth as strong as skin. Go figure the dentist bills.

But it's fixed, so War dogs and the like are back at their awesomeness.

It isn't a new Dwarf Fortress version until we're made to fear some kind of regular creature.  Carp, Elephants, Unicorns, Badgers, and now Mosquitos.  I've got 5 dorfBucks on the next one being plagues of groundhogs.

That good then, I just got through a year and now I have twenty war dogs. And I keep on breeding them too!

Careful breeding TOO many, they'll start to impact your FPS after a while...

You can never breed too many. Just cage them and stick a pressure plate in front of it.

Right in your entrance way.

Modify the skin temperature of all your dogs to 999999 (or some really high number), and watch the show once an unsuspecting goblin steps in the wrong spot.

They're still a bit weak against armored targets, but they're great for soaking up damage from your military. Gets rid of extra animals and saves your military from injury to boot!

Have them all stuffed in a cage out front, with a lever that releases them.  However, upon release, they all ran into the trade depot, or around the enemy.  Bob the war tiger found his prey, though.  (War tigers can be trained w/o dungeon master for some reason.)

I started a fort in heavy ass sinister just for shits and giggles and got swamped with werewolves, two dogs and two wardogs killed 3 before taking any causalities. I would assume for humanoid critters war dogs are clutch en mass, however if a dragon rolls up LOL GG
