As soon as the Goblins begin to charge my dozen Dwarf squad is reduced to 2. Not by losses. 3 need to sleep, 4 need food, 2 need a drink, and 1 is dragged away by the sheriff for not making any blue garnet toys.

That dwarves care enough about orphan babies to bring them buckets of water and +Plump Helmet Biscuits+ but not quite enough to adopt them, or even stop them from crawling into the carp infested major river or nearby magma vent.
