I finally found a unique area that I want to keep using as a starting area while I learn the game. I've figured out how to extract out the worldgen information and now when I try to generate it in 0.31.10 it never makes the world.

The area in question is around the only volcano tile in the world. it is a line of mountain spires that cup a volcano like a fist. It says that there is an aquifier (I love aquifiers and I have yet to find it...). Also the minerals in the area are pretty decent. Here is a picture.

And the world generation:

Anyone have any suggestions for how I can get this to work? Thanks.

Hmm.. I tried rolling that world on vanilla DF and it just rejects it. So, those seed numbers and those parameters can't make the same world again as something has changed in the world gen code.

Looks like way too much water, can try loosening the conditions.
    [COMPLETE_OCEAN_EDGE_MIN:4] makes this islands map.
25 rivers required, looks impossible with that (aborted) terrain.

Minimum number of "x" squares were 8000 and 16000..... you didn't have the

here's one that works and uses your seeds:

How big are those mountain spires? They look like very good practice for making megaprojects.

Well that allowed it to generate a map, on my netbook, that was very different from the initial one I was using. One step closer; thanks. :)

I can check exact heights later when I get home (to my desktop which has the save). The first one on the left is about 5-8 z-levels. The other four are in the 15 - 22 z-level range. They get bigger as you go around clockwise.

Oh I just saw this:

<edit>Oh I figured it out...</edit>

If anyone wants the save just let me know; I can upload the pristine raw version of the world to dffd.

I had the exact same volcano-aquifer going on, had to use Reveal to find my aquifer... turned out to be little puddles under the lowest points of my map, in the corners. Maybe check around there?

Yeah I think I'm going to try to work out using Reveal on the map so I can find the aquifier. As a temporary measure I had set up all the ponds in the area to dump into cisterns.
