It's sad IVAN never got above v0.50, being one of my favorite rougelikes. It still has good mods, though. Even a 3D mod.

They said something about comment out the body of RemoveSaves() in game.cpp, or replace the lines that call it with empty brackets in Char.cpp or game.cpp.

Now I dont know how to use a combiled version or something, can somone get a compiled version and remove this, then compile it and upload it for me?

They want you to edit the source code. It can be a long and annoying process to rebuild the source again later if you lack the proper tools. Just copy your saves while the game is /running/.

The easiest way to savescum is copy-pasting in a seperate folder. However, the game is a lot less fun if it isn't insanely hard anymore. And if you savescum, I will look angrily in your direction ;) . There is indeed no neck bodypart, and sadly, .50 is the latest version, even though there have been some expansions/mods. Try Livan (Lampshades Ivan), Ivan CVS (no idea what that stands for) or I vant more Ivan (for the links and info, check the Ivan forum). You have HP, which is how long you can hold out against a combination of poison, wounds, fire, and HFS, and every bodypart has seperate HP, which adds up to your total. Bloodsheder, IIRC the exact HP for each bodypart is not yet confirmed.

Dexterity increases chance to hit, the body part you hit depends mostly on the weapon. Accurate weapons (daggers, whips) will target limbs more often (I guess this resembles striking knees, shoulders, and other joints). I don't think dex changes the target body part, only the weapon currently held. It is notper se a bad thing to strike at the limbs, as this greatly reduces your opponents effectiveness and takes less wounds than torso or groin and less luck than head.

Engraving the name of some elven queen or godess is indeed nethack, and not Ivan, where engraving is purely for style (monsters can engrave things like 'golem needs master', and your character is an instance of the same class monsters are from.)

As Rickvoid said, great health is not great, but you don't really need to keep max-health very low. Under 200 hp should be okay (over 200 enables a certain clown).

I have never been decapitated by a porcupine that I remember, but I don't think there are that many bugs left.

The forum Rickvoid was talking about: www.attnam.com, it has lots of information and a wiki. And lots of drunk posts and the like in the spam section. Avoid that place.

No neck bodypart. Unless it ever progressed beyond v0.50.

It's incredibly fun using Wizard mode to spawn dozens of veteran kamikaze dwarves inside the cathedral of Valpurus. Then, teleport away, and use a wand of fireballs to start the show(if it doesn't start on its own). It takes days for the smoke to clear.

@blood's ninja: It thought higher dex meant closer to the groin/head, and not further. And mistresses should high dex, they use whips after all.
no with i higher dex your aiming rolls for the limbs will increase like my brother who had a lucky roll for knocking the enner beast's head off because of his high dex and me for completely dismembering all dark knights in my way.

CVS is a type of version-control system (though I can't say I know what it stands for either... :P). There were a couple bugfixes and random features added by the official devs after .50 was released but before they abandoned the project. If you wanted those features or bugfixes, you'd have to compile from the CVS source.  I can't say I've tried any of the unofficial versions, given that I have enough trouble trying to get things like LCS to compile. It's not generally worth my time. I call myself a coder, but unless I made the program in one of the visual studio IDEs, I'm always at a loss for how to compile it later. >.>

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

I am not...

After finding out how they expect you to Win Ivan... It is worse then Nethack EVER was when it came to relying on spoilers.

The way to win seems obvious enough to me. The High Preist oughtright tells you about the Freedom and Knighthood endings. The Liberation ending isn't that hard to figure out, and you will likely fufill it anyway out of hatred for Richard Decos. The Slave ending is also intuitive, considering the things you must do to become Mortifiger's Champion. The only one that seems hard to figure out is the High Preist ending, but that is the best ending overall, so I don't hold it against the game.
