Succesion Game - The Great Dwarven Prison
« on: July 12, 2010, 03:48:42 pm »

Well, i always wanted to try the prison challenge thing. My current luxurious no-worry dwarf fortress is pretty boring, though i will be still playing it (i want it to have less FUN, but a longer lifespan, long term game in short). But as i told - it's the way too ideal. 80% have constant esctatic and happy statement, great and royal bedrooms, stockpile full of food of widest variety etc. Boring. Just boring.

Now let's get down to business. I would like to start a succession game. It's about building dwarven prison. What are rules? Well, you can watch for them here http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Challenges#Dwarven_Prison

I will just summarise them ...

1) The first 7 dwarves and all migrants that would come for the first year are prison guards. They were sent by king to build the most hardcore dwarven prsion. Thus means, that we have 1 first year to build the working prison system.
2) Every migrant (even children) later will be considered as notorious and infamous criminals. I haven't decided yet, if we can pick 1-2 most useful migrants to decrease the difficulty (let's pretend that they are escort guard)
3) Prison shouldn't give prisoners anything but raw plump helmets, fish, low-quality meat, a bed per person and .... water. No booze. At all. They are goddamn rapers, burglars, thieves and just maniacs - why the hell should we do something good for them?
4) Despite of all this, dwarven justice system is compassionate one and all prisoners should be kept alive. At least guards shouldn't be involved directly in their deaths.

That's all so far, Make your suggestions for rules. The location, the surroundings etc.

P.S. English isn't even my first foreign language, and i hope to make it better by playing succesion game with english speaking players. Don't be harsh and feel free to correct me  8)

Count me in!  Both for the game, and correcting your grammar.

Me too, I say that the place should be the opposite of a mountain. Bonus points for making the dwarf's live above ground and exposed to most elements.

What about this one: prison guards and warden live underground far from nasty sun, but prisoners live outside within 3x3 cells with 1 single "inside" tile (to set a bed there, cause bed can't be built outside). Once per month (or twice) they get food and.. water  :D It's a good idea. I like it - if there won't anything better, i will add it to rules in first post.

And yes one more thing - i think we should turn off ambushers. I mean, why the hell goblins would have any desire to ambush dwarven prison? No wealth, 90% are prisoners etc.

That's quite true. We should also separate the wards into male and female blocks.

OH OH! Somewhere along the line, we should think about managing a sorta yard section. You know, to let them out and socialize like real prisons.

Can I join as well? This will be a fun little project :D
All the "guards" should be equipped with leather armour and maces or hammers at all times. Maces/hammers because they are blunt.
And how about a huge fence around the prison as well? Complete with guard towers and all? :)

Ofc. In my current fortress i have perimeter wall and guard towers. I am going for that in prison too.

A bit too early for that, but ok, if i wont forget i will give you one  8)

About equipment. I think, we need heavy armoured guards too. In case of prison revolt.

Also, we need some real FUN! I mean - imagine some prisoner to get in mood, then going insane and starting killing other prisoners, so guard must stop it by force!

One more suggestion
We could have more points to waste at embark screen. After all we get some investment from king himself.

Sure. Just figure out a way to arm the dwarves to the teeth from the beginning.

I will try)

I think, we will be using the last version and will be updating it as new appear.
I suggest using Mayday graph. pack. Though it doesn't matter - the core save is the same. You can transfer it to any version you like - with graph or without.
