Introduction
Hello, I'm Captain Mayday, and I'd like to welcome you to the first thread for DF Legendary Lands for any current edition of DF.
Although I'm aware that there are many of you who used to routinely play this mod, please allow me to summarise it for the newcomers.
A Brief Overview
Legendary Lands is a Total Conversion mod. This means that it won't sit alongside the vanilla game, and it won't play nicely with other mods unless you mod them to do so.
The mod, previously, introduced a large amount of variety to DF, with new creatures, new plants, new civs, and new materials. It also made the game that much harder.
Current Status of the Mod
This is basically complete. Anything added in future simply makes it additionally complete.
Some highlights include:
Improved Bodies- Using a combination of creature variations and revised body parts, bodies are easier to adjust than ever before. For those of you familiar with the old body templates, such as Humanoid, Quadruped and so on: Those no longer exist. Instead they've been replaced by Creature Variations of the same name. The big benefit here is that you can remove specific parts from this template within the creature itself, making them far more flexible.
This mod makes use of my
VBASE modding format.
More Impressive Megabeasts- Not just more impressive, but more detailed and varied. Take for example the lowly vanilla dragon. This sorry specimen has been replaced with not one, not two, but three majestic versions, each with their own breath powers and qualities (not to mention the ability to fly).
Different Underground LifeSome things are getting changed, some are getting extended (gem men now come in all flavours of gem), and others are getting replaced completely. The Underground will be a completely different place.
You will come to fear the underground.
Different CivilisationsNot just full civilisations, but also tribal civilisations have been added and expanded upon.
Deep below ground nestle lost tribes of dwarves, and even tribal elves who protect the undergrottos. There are other, more sinister things awaiting you down there as well.
More Difficult FarmingThis has always been the case for Legendary Lands, and it returns. Farming is made more difficult by decreased yields and longer crop growth times. There's a lot of plant life out there to be gathered, however, so the natural world is your banquet.
Simplicity in ModdingLegendary Lands, and it's raws, are the result of many hours of hard work in shifting a lot of commonly used stuff to creature variations, such as the tissue raws. This has allowed us to clear up each set of raws to help new modders pick up what there is to learn in small amounts.
Other ModsI have worked considerably with Lofn, and have taken elements of his wanderer's mod.
I have also converted a large number of animals from Chariot's Zoo mod to the VBASE format.
Elements from Other ModsWanderer's Mod, by Lofn. Lofn and I have talked at length regarding tanning etc, and I'd like to thank him for the use of his materials here.
Civilisation Forge mod, by Mephansteras. Main elements borrowed: Armour and weapons additions.
Zoo Mod, by Chariot. I would not have been able to boost diversity so easily without this mod. A large number of his creatures have been converted to VBASE format.
Where To Get It?Here.Possibly Asked Questions:
Q: So How 'Done' is this mod?
A: It's done, but it's impossible for me to test everything. Please let me know if anything seems out of whack and I'll get right on fixing that.
